Russell Westbrook put up his second consecutive 30-point game of the playoffs, and NBA fans feel the Los Angeles Lakers were to blame all along for his dip in form. The Phoenix Suns beat the Los Angeles Clippers 112-100 in game 4 of the Western Conference first round to take a 3-1 lead in the series. Despite a 37 points effort from Russ, the Clippers could not get over the line.

In the four games this series, Westbrook has scored over 25 points in the last three straight games, and the Clippers have lost all of them. Their only win of the series came when Westbrook shot 3/19 from the field but came up clutch with the game-winning block and free throws. Westbrook has been a polarizing figure in the NBA this season as his first half with Los Angeles was quite underwhelming, but he has blossomed in the NBA Playoffs.

NBA Fans feel the Los Angeles Lakers were at fault for his regular season woes, which is something analysts had predicted when the trade went down. Westbrook could be a better shooter; therefore, he required shooters around him to space the floor, which the Clippers have in Terrance Mann, Eric Gordon, and Norman Powell. However, Westbrook has shot at an incredible level this playoff going 46% from the field, 40% from three, and 88% from the free throw line.

During the 2023 regular season, Westbrook averaged just 15.9 points per game for the Lakers while shooting a dismal 29% from three-point range. Ever since his trade to the other side of LA, his numbers have improved significantly. Fans praised Westbrook for his ability to put the Clippers on his back while Kawhi Leonard and Paul George were out injured in games 3 and 4.

Some fans, however, felt that NBA veteran LeBron James was the problem. “LeBron almost ruined him,” said one fan on Twitter. Westbrook is known to be a high-usage player, and with another player like LeBron, who demands the ball a lot, it caused numerous issues for the Lakers. Westbrook was relegated to a bench role due to his initial performances. One fan echoed this sentiment: “To many ball hogs on lakers he didn’t do as well not on him.”

Russell Westbrook and the Clippers have a considerable task ahead of them as they stare at a first-round 3-1 deficit without their two superstars available. Kawhi Leonard got a knee injury, and PG has been virtually ruled out for the first round despite his rehab going well.
