The Los Angeles Lakers performance in Game 5 was a complete failure, as they were defeated 116-99 by the Memphis Grizzlies. With a 3-1 series lead, Game 5 provided the ideal opportunity for the Lakers to capture the series. However, the team’s performance dipped, and the Grizzlies dominated on the floor, leaving the Lakers with little chance of recovering. The Grizzlies’ top performers on the floor were Ja Morant and Desmond Bane, who combined for 64 points. For the Lakers though, surprisingly, LeBron James was the biggest flop this game.

James only scored 15 points, dished out five assists and grabbed ten rebounds in 37 minutes of action. This was a major flop in comparison to James’ previous efforts in this series. James went from putting up 20 points and 20 rebounds and making game-winning shots to not contributing at all. What surprised everyone was Anthony Davis turning up and scoring 31 points, the most for the Lakers. LeBron James, on the other hand, agrees that his game was a “s**tshow.”

James said in the immediate media interactions post-game, “Tonight I was sh*t. And I’ll be better in Game 6.” His response to his performance is taken as an acknowledgment of defeat but a warning at the same time. The Memphis Grizzlies will not take this warning lightly because James has been a game-changer for the LA Lakers. James has been able to change the course of a playoff series with the flick of a switch, producing performances for the ages.

Desmond Bane showed up for the Memphis Grizzlies, scoring 33 points and racking up five assists alongside ten rebounds. Ja Morant followed with 31 points, seven assists, and ten rebounds to his name. Jaren Jackson Jr. was next with 18 points as the team performed as a unit to get the dub.

For the Lakers, surprisingly, Anthony Davis was the star of the show, yet the Lakers still lost. Davis scored 31 points, one assist, and 19 rebounds in an unexpected way. Austin Reaves followed with 17 points, six assists, and eight rebounds. LeBron James was nowhere close to the top, scoring an underwhelming 15 points on a dismal shooting night.

The Lakers will face off against the Memphis Grizzlies in Game 6, and hopefully, this time, they’ll hope to approach it all guns blazing. The Grizzlies may have reason to be concerned with LeBron James’ warning and Anthony Davis’ form going hand in hand. The Grizzlies, on the other hand, cannot be counted out after such a performance. It will be interesting to watch how both sides do in Game 6. It all goes down tomorrow at Crypto.com Arena.
