The Los Angeles Lakers take on the Golden State Warriors in the second round of the postseason. After a successful first round, LeBron James and the Lakers arrive at Bay for the Conference Semi-Finals against his old rival team, the Dubs. Following Game 1, the Lakers edged out as they now lead the series 1-0. Losing the home-court advantage, the Warriors will look to win Game 2 and tie the series.

Game 1 was rough, as both the teams went back and forth throughout. Though in the end, the Lakers prevailed. Anthony Davis led the team, putting up 30 points, whereas LeBron James continued to be himself and added 22. Going back to the first round, the Lakers had won Game 1 versus the Memphis Grizzlies on the road. Memphis responded back in Game 2 to even out the series.

Teams that have lost Game 1 at home have a 100% chance to prevail in Game 2, according to the numbers. The record of the stat stands at 15-0, with no team failing in two consecutive home games in the past few years. Out of those 15 instances, four of them were included in this year’s postseason. The Miami Heat beat the Milwaukee Bucks in Game 1, playing an away game. The Bucks then took to Game 2 to even out that series. The same scenario was with the Phoenix Suns and Los Angeles Clippers series and the New York Knicks versus Cleveland Cavaliers series.

While the Warriors’ chances of winning the next game seem pretty strong by the numbers, they may have the same odds of losing Game 2. Stephen Curry, the leader, put up 27 points versus the Lakers. He is coming off a great series performance versus the Kings, though what would matter would be the team’s collective effort on the floor.

The Lakers have two dominant players, LeBron James and Anthony Davis, who can change the course of the game with their talent. At the same time, several other players on the Lakers come up as scoring threats from the outside. Statistically, the odds of the Lakers winning this game are pretty much zero, though James and company can make history yet again. The all-time scoring leader and the Brow have been an exceptional duo this postseason.

With the defending champs stumbling in the second round, the Lakers can have a great advantage once they go up 2-0. As Games 3 and 4 are to be played in L.A, James’ hopes for a fifth title stay put, even at the age of 38.
