LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers faced off against their Western Conference rivals – the Denver Nuggets – in a matchup on Tuesday night (PST). The Lakers failed to defeat the Nuggets yet again and went down with the final score reading 119-107.

One of the more surprising aspects of the evening was that LeBron James only played 29 minutes on the floor. Coach Darvin Ham had restricted James’ minutes and his exclusion could have cost the Lakers the game. James’ was mic’d up for some part of the game and he could be heard telling the Lakers coaching staff he could play at the point guard position if the other positions were taken up.

James can be seen talking to one of his coaches, telling him that he’s just “floating around” and could be put to better use on the floor.

He said:

Y'all do know I can play point guard too right? Okay. We got a lot left. I can play the point. With Rui on there or, Austin, and T.P at the 2 and 3. I'm just out there just floatin' around.

Hopefully, James and the coaching staff can find a solution for how to best utilize him when sharing the floor with other forwards. Despite his age of 38, James still possesses a significant amount of skill and energy, which should be harnessed to its fullest potential.

Why are the Lakers limiting LeBron James’ minutes?

LeBron James is still arguably a Top 10 player in the league. He can still do it at all. Despite losing a little bit of speed he can still dominate the floor like no one else in the NBA. So why aren’t the Lakers putting him on the floor for longer?

It’s because James will be turning 39 this season. Despite his longevity and endurance, his body is still at a higher risk of injury than most players considering the fact that he’s the oldest person in the NBA.

The Lakers want to rest him to ensure that he’s fit during the post-season where his game will really matter. This was just the first game of the season and the LA Lakers will undoubtedly figure out an efficient way to rotate their players.
