“Redefining Father Time,” LeBron James’ biggest rival duo of Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce heap praise on him after huge birthday performance

Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett, and LeBron James

The rivalry between Boston Celtics and the Miami Heat gave basketball fans some of the greatest games and one of the greatest series in NBA history. Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett against Dwyane Wade and LeBron James became the tale of the South Beach later on a nightmare for TD Garden. During his Cleveland and Miami days, James had one of his biggest rivalries with Garnett and Pierce in the Eastern Conference.

However, in a recent post on Twitter, both Celtics greats gave LeBron his flowers on his masterful birthday 47 points against the Atlanta Hawks. Both Pierce alluded to the fact that James is scoring impossible numbers and playing at a high level despite being 38, a retirement age. Pierce wrote on Twitter, “LB defying Father Time #Goatshit,” while Garnett wrote, “LeBron getting the same 30 point triple doubles at 38 as he did at 18 is some crazy ish. Redefining Father Time.”

Everyone remembers the Paul Pierce jersey retirement day at TD Garden, and how LeBron and the Cavs ruined it for him. However, over time, despite the bad blood and decade-long rivalry, just like others Pierce and Garnett have come to terms with James’ greatness. The longtime rivals of 4 x MVPs know what he has done for the game and for most of his playing career he has been a synonym for defiance.

How long James would play, there is no timetable, but he sure has answered the odds of fatherhood, when he is better than some of the franchise superstars at this age. That is not it, he is also averaging some of the highest minutes in the NBA, despite being 38.

Pierce & Garnett’s rivalry against LeBron James in brief

In a brief history of rivalry between these superstars, Garnett and Pierce defeated James in the 2010 Playoffs and later Garnett remarked that they forced LeBron out of Cleveland. However, after the Lakers‘ star went to Heat, he beat them 4-1 in the 2011 Playoffs and 4-3 in the 2012 playoffs. In 2012, James also played one of the greatest games of his career in Game 6 of the ECF against Pierce and Garnett, an elimination game.

Before the 4 x NBA champion won his 4th ring, Pierce refused to keep LeBron even in the top 5 players of all time. However, he later put James on number 2 after his 4th championship. In a recent showdown between the Celtics and the Lakers, when the Lakers lost the game in overtime, Rachel Nichols posted a video of Pierce, commenting “That’s game, baby. Hey LeBron, that’s game.” Overall, the rivalry still continues today, just the outlook has changed. James scored 47 points, 10 rebounds, and 9 assists in the game against the Atlanta Hawks on his birthday.
