LeBron James has been rewriting the record books all season long, and he added another milestone to his resume on Friday night. James led the Los Angeles Lakers to a 122-101 victory over the Golden State Warriors in Game 6 of the Western Conference semifinals.

It was also the 41st playoff series win of James’ career, which moved him past former Laker Derek Fisher for the most in NBA history. James finished with 30 points, nine rebounds and nine assists, while Anthony Davis added 17 points and 20 rebounds for the Lakers, who dominated the game from start to finish.

They shot 52% from the field and 50% from three-point range while holding the Warriors to 37.9% and 27.1%, respectively. Surprisingly, the Lakers were outrebounded the Warriors 53-46. The Lakers were in control throughout the game, though, leading by as many as 29 points in the fourth quarter.

They never let the Warriors get into a rhythm or mount a comeback, as they stifled their offense and attacked their defense. The Warriors, who were the defending champions, had no answer for James and Davis, who combined for 47 points on 15-of-24 shooting.

The Los Angeles Lakers and the Denver Nuggets are facing off in the Western Conference Finals for the second time in three years. The Lakers won the last series in 2020 on their way to the championship.

The Lakers and the Nuggets met four times in the regular season, but it was a draw, with both teams winning two games apiece. But those games don’t mean much now, because both teams have changed a lot since then. The Lakers traded Russell Westbrook for D’Angelo Russell, Jarred Vanderbilt and Malik Beasley at the deadline, giving them more shooting, defense and depth. The Nuggets added Aaron Gordon and JaVale McGee to their roster, giving them more size, athleticism and versatility.

The biggest battle in this series will be between Nikola Jokic and Anthony Davis. Jokic is having an MVP-caliber season, putting up 23.3 points, 12.3 rebounds and 9.8 assists per game against the Lakers in the regular season. Davis is one of the best two-way players in the league, averaging 18.3 points and 11.0 rebounds per game against the Nuggets in the regular season, but he missed one game due to injury.

The series tips off in Denver on Tuesday, May 16 at 5:30 p.m. The Lakers will have to deal with the high altitude and the loud fans in Denver. The Nuggets will have to deal with their own pressure and expectations in facing a legendary franchise.
