February 8, 2023. The day basketball crowned the new king and a throne that now had a new owner. LeBron James. During their game against the Oklahoma City Thunder, LeBron James became the all-time leading scorer in NBA history, surpassing the great Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, which was held for nearly 39 years. And the whole Crypto Arena erupted.
It was during the third quarter when James scored what would be the 38,388th point of his career surpassing Kareem’s 38,387, marking his place in the pedestal of the greatest. 1 year ago, and it still feels like it was yesterday. And LeBron was there to remind fans about the historic moment. Just with an unusual caption on the story.
In his recent Instagram story, LeBron posted a few posts to remind fans of those glorious days. But one of the posts included Phil Knight, co-founder of Nike, and LeBron James’ historic shot, with a tweet saying “Phil Knight. No Phone. Just Vibes”.
The post shows everyone around Phil taking their phones ready to capture LeBron’s iconic moment. Whereas he just witnessed the beautiful with no phone and let the glorious moment sink in with just his eyes.

And while LeBron alongside the Los Angeles Lakers aims for yet another milestone, it won’t be long before he reaches that elusive 40,000. Maybe Phil would be in the house yet again to witness another of his moments, with obviously, without his phone like the rest.
LeBron James surpassed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar as the Greatest
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s record of holding the most points in the history of the NBA was deemed unmatchable by a good margin- let alone breakable. Until LeBron James did the unthinkable, changing the course of the NBA’s history.

It was the game against the Oklahoma City Thunder just one year ago today when LeBron James went on to crown himself the Greatest scorer in NBA history. From a young kid from Akron, Ohio to taking the NBA by storm, it was inevitable that his rise was certain. But no one expected what he would do on February 8. Not even himself.
38,387 was the marker set by Kareem, and with a fadeaway jumper from the left elbow, LeBron drained what would be the 38,388th point of his career and a new name on the very top of the list.
There is no denying that with each game, LeBron further cements his legacy as an icon of the game. And while some feel it is already time for the torch to be passed, the 39-year-old feels there is still a lot to achieve and a lot of records to break.
