The Los Angeles Lakers advanced in the Western Conference after thwarting the Golden State Warriors in Game 6. With a series lead of 3-2, the Lakers played at home and were looking to seal the series. LeBron James led the valiant team effort with a brilliant 30-point show. For the Warriors, Stephen Curry played a fighting 32-point game. However, it wasn’t enough as the defending champions couldn’t force Game 7. The score at the end of regulation was 101-122.

Throughout the series, there were many talks about the officiating by the referees. In fact, fans and critics pointed out that referees were calling soft fouls on players. Moreover, ahead of Game 5, Warriors Head Coach Steve Kerr even mentioned that the Lakers were flopping on the court to sell fouls. These allegations came after the stunning difference in the number of free throws shot by both teams leading up to that Game.

While Steve Kerr accused Los Angeles of flopping, Lakers Head Coach Darvin Ham was quick to dismiss it. He said that the Lakers neither teach nor promote flopping. Even LeBron James responded to these allegations by denying a flopping culture in LA. However, Warriors forward JaMychal Green called out the NBA veteran on his Instagram story by placing a big blue cap on top of his picture. In a response after a Lakers series victory, James has his fans in splits. The Lakers star posted an Instagram story with a Drake song that has the lyrics “Bench players talking like starters, I hate it.” A clear shade at Green who comes off the bench for Golden State.

With the Golden State Warriors out, the Los Angeles Lakers will now advance to the Western Conference Finals. They will face the number one seed in the Western Conference led by Nikola Jokic. The Nuggets have come off a dominating Game 6 win over the Phoenix Suns. Moreover, Jamal Murray has been exceptional for the side. He has averaged 25.9 points, 6.5 assists, and 5.2 rebounds in 11 games in the 2023 playoffs. Jokic, on the other hand, has averaged 30.7 points, 12.8 rebounds, and 9.7 assists in just as many games.

While the Lakers will have tough competition, they themselves won’t be an easy side to win against. Los Angeles has been a fortress for the Lakers this postseason as they have a 7-0 record at home. With 4 out of 7 games to be played in LA, LeBron James and Co. have the home advantage in their favor.

Moreover, the Lakers have been in phenomenal touch as a team. Anthony Davis has been a two-way force, and Austin Reaves, DeAngelo Russell, and Dennis Schröder have been scoring brilliantly. Needless to say that the Nuggets-Lakers face-off will be very exciting to watch. Will James get a shot at his fifth ring or will Jokic get one step closer to his first?
