LeBron James is in a unique position for the first time in his illustrious career. He will have to decide between playing for his team, the Los Angeles Lakers or being with his family. He chose family.
Professional athletes are generally excused from team events if a major family situation needs their presence. Marriage, the birth of a child or the death of close ones are big enough reasons for athletes to get the day off. In James’ case, it is the first college basketball game of his eldest son Bronny James’ life. For the Lakers star that is a big enough part of his life that he will choose to go for Bronny’s game. He has invested in the lives of his children and will not miss the highlight points.

Bronny James collapsed in July this year from cardiac arrest during practice. Doctors have given the University of South Carolina freshman an all-clear after his recovery. His college debut is scheduled to happen any time this month.
LeBron James while speaking with reporters after their 133-110 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder game mentioned that he has already informed the Los Angeles Lakers front office and his teammates about his intentions to skip the Lakers game if it coincides with Bronny James’ debut. The Lakers will obviously not mind, considering what LeBron has done for the team.
How good is Bronny James?
Bronny James was the 19th-ranked recruit out of Siera Canyon High School for the 2023 year. Averaging 13.8 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.8 steals in his senior year, James drew attention from major college programs. The McDonald’s All-American guard is highly regarded as an elite 3 and D player.

LeBron James has long been a voice in his son’s ear, prodding him to develop his game to overcome his size deficiencies. Obviously having a GOAT candidate father to give him tips is the best situation a young player can be in. Bronny James’ play has become better over the years in high school.
When LeBron announced tonight that if his son, Bronny’s, college hoops debut falls on the same night as a Lakers game, he’d skip work to attend the USC game a couple of his teammates jokingly protested. There are a few overlapping dates coming up: 12/28; 12/30; 1/3; 1/13; 1/17 pic.twitter.com/YZEHqK6N9E

For the senior James, seeing his bloodline start his collegiate career is a moment he does not want to miss. The most recognizable franchise in the biggest basketball league in the world can wait.
