Dr. Brian Sutterer, known for analyzing player injuries, addressed this question in a YouTube video on his channel. He stated that even if the doctors identified the exact cause of Bronny’s cardiac arrest, it would not be safe for him to return to court due to the risk of another potentially fatal episode.
To illustrate his point, Dr. Sutterer referred to the case of Shareef O’Neal, Shaquille O’Neal’s son, who also suffered a cardiac arrest because of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Despite identifying the condition in Shareef’s case, he was kept out of play for a significant period, and the same would likely apply to Bronny if any surgical intervention is required for treatment.
Dr. Sutterer emphasized that if Bronny’s cardiac arrest’s exact cause remains unknown, the potential risks involved if he decides to return to playing basketball will need to be discussed.” If they don’t find a clear cause and you don’t really know what happened, you have to have that discussion of what exactly are the risks of going back out there and playing,” Dr.Sutterer said.
In conclusion, he said the situation is dire, and the future of Bronny’s career will depend on the results of the medical tests and the subsequent measures taken. “The extremely serious situation we’re dealing with, then legitimately something that affects the rest of his career depending on what we discover and depending on what they have to do about it.”
