The Los Angeles Lakers are in a precarious position. After dropping Game 1 of the Western Conference finals to the Denver Nuggets, they couldn’t recover in Game 2 and lost 108-103 on Thursday night. The biggest reason for the Lakers’ downfall was LeBron James, who had a night to forget.

The Lakers had opportunities to win, but they couldn’t capitalize on them. The Nuggets stunned the Lakers with a barrage of three-pointers in the fourth quarter and sealed the victory with clutch free throws.

The four-time MVP finished with 22 points, nine rebounds, and ten assists, but he shot 0-of-6 from beyond the arc and turned the ball over three times. He also missed a crucial layup in the final minute that would have made it a two-point game.

James also had some humiliating moments on the court, such as botching an easy dunk on a fast break and missing a wide-open layup in the half-court. He was outshined by Jamal Murray, who scored 37 points and made six threes for the Nuggets. Murray also burned James on several occasions when the Lakers tried to switch him onto the Nuggets’ star guard.

NBA Twitter did not let James off the hook for his dismal performance and roasted him relentlessly. Some fans labeled him “washed” and “old”, while others ridiculed his lack of clutchness and leadership. Some even suggested that he should retire.

Here are some of the tweets that show this sentiment:

James did not have much help from his teammates, either. Austin Reaves kept the Lakers in it late with key three-point shooting and finished with 22 points, including five made threes. Rui Hachimura lifted the Lakers off the bench with 21 points. But Anthony Davis, who was supposed to be James’ co-star, had a dismal game with only 18 points on just 4-of-15 shooting.

Davis was outplayed by Nikola Jokic, who had his second consecutive triple-double with 23 points, 17 rebounds, and 12 assists. Jokic was scoreless in the fourth quarter but had three assists in the frame to set up his teammates for crucial baskets.

The Lakers return home down 0-2 in the series, with Game 3 scheduled for Saturday at Crypto.com Arena. They will need a much better performance from James and Davis if they want to avoid falling into a deeper hole.
