The Golden State Warriors have been one of the most dominating teams in the last ten years. They’ve won four championships since the 2014-15 NBA season and made it to six NBA finals in eight years. Steve Kerr has undoubtedly been a phenomenal coach for the Warriors. Moreover, with the trio of Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green, Golden State has been a force to reckon with. They have now advanced into the Western Conference Semi-Finals after their dominating Game 7 victory over the Sacramento Kings.
After Golden State’s heroics, coach Steve Kerr has managed to keep his record streak going. Steve Kerr is now 19-0 in the playoff series vs. western conference teams. Since his inception as Warriors coach, Kerr has guided Golden State into being the massive success they are today. Moreover, in his first five years as Head Coach, he got the Warriors to feature in five consecutive NBA finals. Since then, they have never lost to a Western Conference team in the playoffs. Golden State Warriors have only lost twice in the NBA postseason. Both instances were in the NBA finals against an Eastern Conference side.
The Golden State Warriors will now play the Los Angeles Lakers for the Western Conference Finals. Although the Warriors and Lakers don’t have much of a playoff history, there is one name in the LA roster that Kerr and his boys are already familiar with; LeBron James. During Golden State’s historic five consecutive finals appearance, their main opponent was the Cleveland Cavaliers, led by the veteran superstar. During the 2016 NBA finals, LeBron James made a record-breaking, historic comeback from a 3-1 deficit to win the championship, upsetting Golden State.
James and the Warriors have never featured in the same conference before. Therefore, this being their first playoff matchup out of the NBA finals promises to be exciting. While Kerr would be keen to make his record go up to 20-0, James would look to hand the veteran coach his first loss to a western conference team. After all, the Lakers have looked pretty solid since the mid-season trade and will not be easy opponents to take on.

Revisiting the Warriors-LeBron James rivalry

The rivalry between LeBron James and Stephen Curry and Co. started way back in 2015. This was the year the young brigade composed of Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green won their first NBA championship. James, who already was a four-time MVP at the time, was a solid wall between the Warriors and the NBA title. However, despite his threat, Golden State won the finals series 4-2 in six games after being in a 2-1 deficit at the halfway stage.
2016 saw the most exciting finals matchup between these two teams. Golden State had a record run in the NBA regular season with 73 wins. Heading into the finals, the defending champions oozed with confidence. They took a formidable 3-1 lead in four games and were just one victory away from back-to-back titles. However, LeBron James had other intentions. Intentions of creating history. In the most mind-blowing comeback in the NBA finals, James led the Cavaliers to win three straight games and win the NBA championship 4-3 in seven games.
The years 2017 and 2018 belonged to the Warriors as they dominated the Cavaliers in both those years. With the addition of Kevin Durant, Golden State was considered to be a super team as they won back-to-back titles. This was also when KD won his two rings in an epic rivalry matchup with James. The Cavaliers were no match for the Warriors for those two seasons, losing 4-1 in 2017 and 4-0 in 2018.
