LeBron James leading Los Angeles Lakers against Kwahi Leonard led Los Angeles Clippers for the City authority

The 2022 season was a worrisome sign for Los Angeles Lakers, but what would worry them even more, is something completely different. It’s the believe that Clippers are taking over the LA. With some recent success, the Clippers are a more consistent team than their city Rivals. Lakers Megastar LeBron James was at Drew League game, where he came across one such fan who taunted the feeling while LBJ was on the sidelines practicing.

But LeBron was unfazed by the comment; rather he nodded to it and presented his fist for the bump. An amazed fan went for it but got the real taste of LBJ fun as King quickly backed out, denying any bump. Fans around the premise laughed at the fake bump, and LeBron also smiled and continued with the practice. Later he exploded with 42 points and 16 rebounds performance.

Maybe he should thank that Clipper fan who ignited the fire in LeBron with his comments. Lakers faithful will be expecting similar productions in the upcoming season, and of course, holding the ground in the city is very much part of it.

Has Los Angeles Clippers Overtaken LeBron James and Los Angeles Lakers in the league?

The rivalry between the Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Clippers is very much known as two franchises fighting it out for dominance over the biggest market in the league. It just got spicier in the fall of 2019, when both teams recruited star-studded players to become championship favorites. The Lakers had LeBron James and Anthony Davis leading the charge, while the Clippers added Kawhi Leonard and Paul George to their roster to challenge for their 1st ever Championship.

The Lakers have been a dominating team in the past and also tied with the Celtics for the record of most NBA Championships in the league. But after 2019, Clippers looked solid on paper as 2 tile NBA Champion Kawhi and company were the favorites to win the NBA title before the Lakers. However, Steve Ballmer left pale-faced when the Lakers eventually won the title in 2020.

It was a similar situation for the Clippers for decades, as they formed Superteam after superteam from 2005 and then went into the rebuilding phase over and over again. Lakers on the other hand managed to win at least 1 title in every decade, rubbing salt on their City Rivals. But since the 2020 win, the Purple and Gold looked very vulnerable and the Clippers remained strong, though haven’t won any title.

Both teams sharing the same arena made things more interesting as the Clippers possess a’ serious threat to the Lakers’ hold on the city fan base. The Clippers were the better team in the recent season, however, despite missing their superstars Leonard and George for most of the period.

Also, the Clips had better head-to-head win-loss numbers that heavily favor them. Since 2012, the Clippers have a 32-7 record in regular-season games against the Lakers. As things stand, Kawhi Leonard and co. are once again better suited to contend for the title. They have added John Wall to the talented roster, providing a legitimate guard to facilitate George and Leonard, while the Lakers are struggling to find the perfect fit for their 4-time MVP LeBron James and Anthony Davis pair.

Well, perceptions might be a very subjective matter, it’s always how the teams would perform on the hardwood that will matter the most. As of now, Clipper might have the upper hand on paper and history might support them heavily, healthy Lakers trio is also capable of pulling games on their own. We will have to wait for their 1st encounter this season.
