LeBron James, not Michael Jordan, is the GOAT, argues rapper Lil Wayne
Rapper Lil Wayne controversially ranks LeBron James above Michael Jordan
Renowned rapper Lil Wayne has recently sparked a heated debate among basketball enthusiasts by publicly declaring his preference for LeBron James over Michael Jordan. During an appearance on the All The Smoke podcast hosted by Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson, Lil Wayne ranked the three basketball legends in order, placing LeBron James as his number one pick, followed by Michael Jordan in second place, and Kobe Bryant in third.
In the released clip from the podcast, Lil Wayne expressed his admiration for Jordan’s unparalleled winning mentality, citing his childhood memories of Jordan always emerging victorious. However, the rapper highlighted LeBron James’ ability to win championships with three different teams as the factor that turned the scales in his favor. Lil Wayne praised James for accomplishing this feat and emphasized that the King had never played a secondary role on any of those championship-winning teams.
“I love Jordan for the way he f**king always won. As a kid, you don’t know too much about the ins and outs and all the other sh*t that we love now in the game that I’m old enough to care about. So I just, ‘who won?’ That’s my favorite player, he better win. He always f**king win, that’s all I know. I got old enough to know how hard it is to f**king do it back to back to back. That’s where he gains his respect to where he’s the greatest. It’s very hard to do.”
“Bron one, Mike and then Kobe…That n***a Bron done did that s**t with three teams. That’s when I was like regardless if he ain’t got six, but darn he done it with three different teams and not on one of those motherf**king teams did he play part two or role two.”
Lil Wayne’s raised a valid point about LeBron James’ versatility and success across multiple franchises. Winning championships with three different teams is an exceptional achievement, solidifying James’ legacy as one of the greatest players in NBA history. Furthermore, James’ ability to secure the Finals MVP award in each of his championship runs further strengthens his case for being ranked above Jordan.
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s admirable view of LeBron James
Another NBA legend, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, recently opened up about his relationship with LeBron James and expressed his profound admiration for the Los Angeles Lakers superstar. Despite being linked in NBA history as James surpassed Abdul-Jabbar for the No. 1 spot on the all-time scoring list, the two icons have only had brief conversations.
Abdul-Jabbar clarified that there is no animosity or bitterness between them, emphasizing that he holds nothing but admiration for James. The Hall of Famer acknowledged James’ remarkable achievements and recognized him deserving of all the accolades he has received. Abdul-Jabbar even expressed openness to the possibility of a deeper conversation with James in the future, highlighting his respect for James’.
As a Lakers legend, Abdul-Jabbar’s status is undisputed, having secured five NBA titles and three MVP awards during his 14 seasons with the franchise. In comparison, James, who has been with the Lakers for five years, has made a significant impact, leading the team to a championship in the 2020 season.
“I’ve never had a chance to talk to LeBron other than two or three minutes,” Abdul-Jabbar said. “There’s no animosity or resentment there at all. He’s done remarkable things. He deserves all the accolades, whatever it is, that he’s accomplished. … We might get the chance [to speak]. I certainly wouldn’t be against it. As far as where his heart is and the things that he does, I’ve got nothing but admiration for him.”
Both James and Abdul-Jabbar are often mentioned as two of the greatest players in NBA history, and their resumes speak for themselves. While James’ time with the Lakers is relatively short compared to Abdul-Jabbar’s illustrious career, his impact on the franchise is undeniable.
As James continues to shape his NBA future, fans eagerly anticipate his next move in the upcoming offseason. Whether he remains with the Lakers or explores other opportunities, James’ accomplishments and ongoing contributions to the sport solidify his status as one of the greatest players of all time.
