“He was great, all game” LeBron James reveals true feelings upon Russell Westbrook starting from the bench for the first time

Russell Westbrook and LeBron James

Russell Westbrook did not start in a game during the regular season for the first time since his rookie year in 2008. On Friday against the Timberwolves, the Lakers lost 111-102 and now hold a 0-5 record in the Western Conference. Surely it’s not the result they would’ve hoped for but there were certainly some positives to take from the game. Brodie scored 18 points in the game making it his best performance of the season.

LeBron James who led LA’s scoring efforts by scoring 28 points lauded Westbrook’s efforts in the game and said, “He was great…He was great. All game.” Westbrook was more productive than normal which is indeed a plus sign for the Lakers. But this change of role does not guarantee that he will deliver consistent performances. If he fully commits to this job, the rest of the season should see himself and the team improve.

Despite this, the Lakers lost the game 111-102, marking their fifth straight loss to open the season. The crowd even mocked them with shouts of “0-5.” The fact that Anthony Davis was absent from this game due to a back ailment, the Lakers lacked a defensive centerpiece which would have prevented them from losing.

Westbrook is expected to come off the bench even when Anthony Davis returns. The Lakers’ current objective as a club is to figure out how to extract value from him until they re-evaluate their trade strategy with other teams.

Russell Westbrook linked with trade rumors

Recently Russell Westbrook was linked to the Charlotte Hornets in a possible trade scenario with Gordon Hayward. To enhance their squad, the Los Angeles Lakers sorely need additional shooting and frontcourt depth. Due to a lack of frontcourt depth, Darvin Ham was forced to use three-guard lines in his first two games. Due to a lack of size in their frontcourt rotation the Lakers have struggled on the boards.

Playing in Los Angeles has always been an appealing option for many players and Hayward appears to be no exception. He would also have a higher chance of winning a championship with the Lakers due to LeBron James’ presence on the roster. Finally, the Hornets may be the ones to turn down this prospective trade. However given Russell Westbrook’s problems, one would think the Lakers would go for it.
