“We’re just not a team constructed of great shooting” 4x Champ LeBron James takes a subtle dig on Lakers after their misery continues against Warriors
Lebron James
Many basketball gurus expected that LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers would struggle to routinely hit three-point shots against the Golden State Warriors. The Lakers shot 10-40 from beyond the arc for a paltry 25% clip. During the postgame interview, “King James” affirmed what many had pointed out as his team’s most pressing and obvious need “I think we’re getting great looks but it also could mean teams are giving us great looks.
To be completely honest, we’re not a team that’s constructed of great shooting. “It’s not like we’re sitting here with a lot of lasers on our team, but that does not deter us from still trying to get great shots. When we get those opportunities, you take them. We’re not sitting here with a bunch of 40% + career three-point shooting guys.”
LeBron James and Co fall short against the Warriors
The Lakers’ voices were filled with enthusiasm and desire ahead of their season opener. They saw an opportunity to make a statement, to defeat the reigning champs on their own special night. However, a 123-109 loss to the Golden State Warriors on Tuesday just served as a yardstick, reminding them of how far they are from the top. A new coach and a new supporting cast appeared frighteningly familiar in many respects. Shooting problems with several turnovers and most importantly Doubtful chemistry. The Warriors outscored the Lakers by 13 points in the third quarter, increasing their lead.
Still, the Lakers held out hope. Russell Westbrook scored 19 points and 11 rebounds, while LeBron James had 31 points, 14 rebounds, and eight assists. With five minutes remaining, Westbrook’s thundering slam trimmed a 27-point lead to 12 points, indicating the possibility of an upset. But, as winners do, the Warriors snuffed out the effort. Andrew Wiggins fired a 3-pointer in James’ face, and not long after, Curry made a four-point play, thereby extending their championship celebration night.
The Lakers departed Chase Center with a lot of things to work on: they shot only 9 for 39 from 3-point range, committed 21 turnovers (for 27 Golden State points), and surrendered seven 3-pointers in the fourth quarter when they could have made a comeback. The first setback of the season, against strong opposition, foreshadowed a difficult road ahead.
