“I’d rather pick you over ‘Rusty’ Westbrook” LeBron James tried to join forces with 6x All-Star of Portland Trail Blazers
LeBron James is arguably the best player in the league right now and several players have admitted to their desire of winning alongside the King. Similarly, Bron has also been trying his luck to make one last championship run before retiring.
The Los Angeles Lakers came to Damian Lillard for help. The point guard said, “He (LeBron James) was just like, ‘Pull up to the house. And I’m like, sh*t, I’m out here. Tomorrow is the only day I ain’t got nothing planned out. I can pull up for a little bit. … We just chopped it up just about the possibilities.”
This took place prior to signing Russell Westbrook. Either way, Lillard already set his sights on rolling with the Portland Trail Blazers his entire career. The signed Westbrook to a one year $44.2 million which turned out to be a terrible decision by the Lakers as they got pushed off post-season contention.
Damian Lillard rejected Lakers’ offer to retire as a Blazer
Damian Lillard is an incredible shooter with the ability to score the ball at an incredibly high rate. In 2019, he averaged 30 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 8 assists per game. The following season he put up 28.8 points and then took a step back last year due to injuries. But he is a serious threat.
Though LeBron James is a great teammate to play with, Lillard rejected the idea of joining the Lakers. “People make a joke out of it sometimes, like, ‘Man, he’s too loyal, he don’t want to win, he just want his money… People try to put my stance on it as if I’m belittling or I’m saying something bad about the guys that do move. And I’m not. I’m just standing on my square about what I believe.”
As he is about to become Portland all-time leading scorer, he continued,“I want to win as a Trail Blazer. I want to win a championship where I am. I don’t think I would feel the same joy and happiness if I did it elsewhere. I would be happy, no doubt. Like winning a chip, you get that experience. But I know how I want it.”
