The Dallas Mavericks’ championship hopes might have been dealt a massive blow. In a recent interview, Luka Doncic revealed that he is still struggling with the thigh injury that troubled him post All-Star break. He mentioned that his leg is ‘not okay’ after Slovenia’s loss to Lithuania on Thursday, saying,“I don’t know what to say. It’s not okay.”
This news significantly affects Dallas’ chances, as the training camp begins in just three weeks. With Luka’s health uncertain and the season on the horizon, it could certainly impact the chemistry that is supposed to develop between Luka and Kyrie Irving. This chemistry is crucial since Dallas’ winning factor relies on their offense, given that they don’t have enough pieces in the frontcourt to address their rebounding and defensive problems.
After his match, Luka mentioned that his left leg doesn’t feel okay. He stated that unless it’s a major injury, he will continue to play for Slovenia, as he plans to do for the Olympic qualifiers next summer. He added that even though he has an injury, he has to prepare for a whole 82-game NBA season, saying, “I have to prepare for one more game and then for a whole NBA season.”
With Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving, Mavericks have high expectations for next season

The Dallas Mavericks have secured their star duo of Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic, both signed with the franchise for at least the next three seasons. The team is banking on this dynamic duo to deliver the success that eluded them in the previous season when they failed to make the playoffs.
Dallas resigned Kyrie to a three-year $126 million deal this free agency and has Luka locked up till the 2026-27 season, where he has a player option. They also added Grant Williams to their Mid Level Exception, increasing their defensive strength, and have also drafted center Derek Lively II and also gotten another center in Richaun Holmes to get some defensive help.
Mark Cuban and the Dallas front office have been working to improve the team’s roster, although they might not be the strongest team on paper. They hope their star players can click and lead them to playoff success, similar to their run to the Western Conference Finals in the 2021-22 season.
