Luka Doncic just gave the NBA a performance that has never been seen before. With a career-high 21 rebounds, a franchise-best 60 points, and 10 assists, “Luka Magic” destroyed the New York Knicks. Dallas made a remarkable comeback after falling behind 112-103 with less than 30 seconds left in the fourth quarter, but Luka’s magic got it done and forced OT.
Doncic was directed to the free throw line for two shots with four seconds left on the clock and a three-point deficit. He made the first, then purposefully missed the second. He then went for his own rebound and drilled the ball back in the basket to tie the game. Luka scored seven of the Mavericks’ 11 points in overtime. Dallas has now won four straight games and has a record of 19-16, enough for seventh place in the Western Conference.
“I’m tired as hell. I need a recovery beer,” the obviously drained Slovenian said in reference to the game. The most amazing part is that despite only being 23 years old, Luka has smashed numerous records in this game. He became the first and only Maverick to have the most 50-point games. And, also the player to score the most points in a game. Quentin Grimes led New York with 33 points, but he struggled late after being pushed to play a game-high 51 minutes. He had 11 of his 15 assists in the first half.
Did the Atlanta Hawks make the wrong choice by picking Trae Young?
The Dallas Mavericks and Atlanta Hawks executed a transaction at the 2018 NBA Draft that will ultimately reshape the destinies of both organizations. The third overall choice in the 2018 draft went to the Hawks, who picked Slovenian guard Luka Doncic. Then, Atlanta traded Doncic to the Mavericks for the fifth selection. Cam Reddish, a wing scorer who was later moved to New York, was the choice that ended up being made. The true game-changer, though, was the trade between Doncic and Young.
Over the course of their first five seasons, Doncic and Young have each garnered several honors. And eventually guided their squads to successful postseason trips. But Doncic has kept up his ascent and is now regarded as one of the league’s top five players. Young, on the other hand, is seen as being more in the top 15 to 25 bracket. This has caused many people to label Atlanta‘s deal as a blunder.
