Luka Doncic of the Dallas Mavericks has been in a festive mood for quite some time. Things came to a headway recently on Christmas day, when Doncic single-handedly brought forth the dismantling of the Phoenix Suns.
The Slovenian ensured a 114-128 victory for his team in the absence of fellow superstar Kyrie Irving and produced a historic performance along the way. He finished with 50 points, 15 assists, 6 rebounds, 4 steals, and 3 blocks with 15-25 from shooting.
This was Doncic’s 4th game in 5 matches where he scored at least 38 points, outlining exactly why he is considered an MVP candidate by many. Regardless, the gifts did not end on the basketball court, quite literally.
The Mavericks superstar outlined his love for the entire organization on the occasion of Christmas, gifting each player, coach, and rest of the staff a Mercedes-EQ electric bicycle. The bikes are priced between $2500-$3000 and appear to be Formula E Team Silver Arrows.
The specific model boasts of dual batteries, weighs 44 pounds, and has the ‘Enviolo Constant Variable Transmission’ system, a groundbreaking gear system designed by Mercedes.
Doncic even shared a video featuring the reactions of his Mavericks’ colleagues on Instagram, showing a range of delighted faces. Tim Hardaway Jr. could be seen commenting “Luka is alright” during the video.
While Doncic seems to have spent big money on the scooters, this is not the first time that he has given out gifts to his colleagues on Christmas. Just last year, he was known to have spent around $20,000 on gifts for his teammates.
Luka Doncic is having an MVP-calibre season
As the Mavericks have seemingly had to contend themselves with another prolonged Kyrie Irving absence, they are again seeing the best of Luka Doncic. The Slovenian has been in a league of his own this season and looks intent on leading his team to an interesting post-season run.
There is little doubt that the Mavericks continue to be a work in progress, and often seem at their best with Doncic simply conducting the offense. However, the season began with flashes of hope, with Irving showing an increased willingness to share the ball with the franchise player.
Regardless, Doncic responded on Christmas by becoming the youngest player ever to score 10,000 NBA points. There are several reasons why he has since long already been seen as a generational talent, and recent games have only further strengthened that claim.
