LeBron James, Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic
The Dallas Mavericks star player, Kyrie Irving, is going to have a tough time navigating his next season. While it is no surprise that Irving is highly sought after, despite his age, his potential destinations remain very specific. Analysts and pundits across the world are expecting Irving to either stay with the Dallas Mavericks or move to the Los Angeles Lakers. A move to the Lakers is of great interest to Irving, considering it will reunite him with his old friend and Cleveland Cavaliers’ comrade, LeBron James. Though at the same time, his chemistry with Luka Doncic is on the rise and will only get better. So where will Irving go? NBA Insider might have an answer.
The Dallas Mavericks entered the NBA’s draft lottery as a notable participant, as they anxiously landed the tenth pick. The anxiety came from the fact that the pick could fall and be transferred to the New York Knicks. Despite the 34.1% chance of that happening, the Mavs defied the odds. So now, along with a valuable asset enhancing the team’s depth, the team will move ahead with Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving.
You heard it right, Irving is indicated to be staying at the Dallas Mavericks itself, utilizing his max extension. A source said, “I hear they had a handshake deal before the trade [with the Brooklyn Nets]. And Kyrie wouldn’t have said yes to anything less than the max”
While also talking about Kyrie Irving being worth the max extension price, the sources had specific answers. They said, “Maybe to Dallas, he is. I’m not sure what the market is for Kyrie, but no one with cap room is giving it to Kyrie. He comes with too much drama.” Based on a salary cap of $134 million, the Dallas Mavericks would have the option to offer Irving a substantial contract extension worth $272 million over five years if he chooses to re-sign with the team.
Another player agent said, “I hear he’s going back to Dallas on a 3+1 [a player option on the fourth year]. His contract will line up [identically] with Luka’s,” getting it to the total of $201.1 million.

The Los Angeles Lakers are already planning for the upcoming offseason. They aim to strengthen their roster and make a strong push for another championship. NBA insider Brian Windhorst previously suggested that the Lakers might have their sights set on Kyrie Irving. Irving is set to become a free agent from the Dallas Mavericks.
During a discussion on “The Hoop Collective” podcast, Windhorst noted that acquiring Irving would require some strategic maneuvers. This could involve Irving potentially waiving his maximum contract, which he has been after. If that doesn’t happen, the Lakers will have to work out a deal with the Dallas Mavericks. Nevertheless, Windhorst believes that the Lakers have the flexibility to bring in Irving.
While the Lakers might be interested in pursuing Irving, it is most likely that the player will stay with Doncic and the Mavericks. However, nothing is set in stone. Stay tuned for more updates!
