This situation is said to have caused frustration for the team’s star player, Luka Doncic, who has expressed his disappointment publicly and privately. There are reports suggesting that if the team fails to make significant changes to their roster by the summer of 2024, Luka may consider requesting a trade.
Dallas’ decision to play its bench players in an attempt to keep their first-round pick in the upcoming NBA draft is a unique one. Many would expect the team to fight until the end of the season with a player like Doncic on the roster. However, the Mavericks seem to be looking ahead to the future.
“It’s really frustrating,” Doncic said after their loss to Hornets. “I think you can see it with me on the court. Sometimes I don’t feel it’s me. I’m just being out there, you know? I used to have really fun smiling on court, but it’s just been so frustrating for a lot of reasons, not just basketball,” he added.
As the Mavericks’ disappointing season comes to an end, the team must focus on building a winner around Luka Doncic. He is one of the best players in the NBA and has the potential to lead the Mavericks to a championship. However, he needs a strong supporting cast.

Trading Porzingis to the Washington Wizards in exchange for guard Spencer Dinwiddie and others played a crucial role in the team’s success last season. However, both Dinwiddie and Jalen Brunson have since departed from the Mavericks.
The team will have to make some moves this offseason to build a stronger supporting cast for Doncic. They have a solid chance of landing a top-10 pick in the upcoming draft, which could help them add another young player to their core. The Mavericks will also have some cap space to work with in free agency, which they could use to sign a veteran player who could make an immediate impact.
