“He shoulda drafted me!” Luka Doncic waves goodbye, sends savage message to ex-Kings GM

Luka Docic and Vlade Divac

The Dallas Mavericks defeated the Sacramento Kings 107-103 at their home court on Friday. After the win, the team took over the 6th position in the Western Conference, with the team’s star Luka Doncic playing an essential role by almost scoring a triple-double.

Doncic took the opportunity to take a jab at the Kings’ former General Manager Vlade Divac. In 2018, the Sacramento Kings had the opportunity to select Luka Doncic as the second overall pick. However, Divac decided to choose Marvin Bagley. On the next pick, the Dallas Mavericks chose Doncic as the third overall.

After getting picked by the Mavericks, Doncic has become the face of the franchise. Therefore, he did not miss the opportunity to taunt the Kings ex-GM. In the final seconds of the 4th quarter, after shooting the last free throw to seal the game, Doncic waved goodbye to Divac who was sitting court-side. As the guard approached the Mavericks bench, Doncic pointed at Divac and said:

He should've drafted me.

Doncic was anticipated to be the second overall pick in the NBA draft. However, the Kings lost the opportunity to recruit a generational talent. This year, Doncic is having an amazing season as he is currently in the top 5 for the MVP race. The star made sure that the ex-Kings general manager remembered what he missed out on.

Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks move out of the play-in tournament spot

The Mavericks’ future looks bright as the team climbed out of the play-in spot. After the win against the Kings, the Mavericks are now the sixth seed in the Western Conference, safe from the play-in tournament. The team has been through many ups and downs this season in terms of injuries.

However, after the essential part of the puzzle – Kyrie Irving‘s return, the weight on Doncic’s shoulder has been lifted. Doncic who has now moved to the second spot in the MVP race, has taken the responsibility of the wins for quite a while now. However, getting consecutive wins is not a one-man’s job.

The Mavericks are now getting consistent wins as they are now 10-1 in the last eleven games. The team won two back-to-back games against the Kings, securing a safe spot in the playoffs. However, the fight does not stop there, considering the team is only two wins away from being the 4th seed in the toughest conference, it is safe to say that the Mavs are now aiming to get ready for the playoffs.
