NBA fans witnessed a Christmas Day matchup for the ages. This match between the Dallas Mavericks and the Phoenix Suns was more memorable because of the dominance of one man. Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic put up a performance for the ages with fans putting him in the MVP conversation, as a result.
Doncic has been on a roll since superstar teammate Kyrie Irving has been sidelined with injury. Going into the game, every opposing player knew that the Slovenian was going to be the focal point of the Mavericks game plan.
Even then, they could not contain a masterful performance from the Mavericks superstar. Doncic finished with 50 points, 6 rebounds, 15 assists, 3 blocks, and 4 steals to provide a historic all-round performance. Such was the level of his game that the Suns could only lead the game once, in 4 quarters.
Doncic is the leading scorer and playmaker for the Mavericks since Kyrie Irving was sidelined 10 games ago. In his previous 10 games, Doncic has averaged 36 points, 8.9 rebounds and 10.6 assists. The bonus of winning against his arch-rival Devin Booker was motivating enough for Doncic to put up such historical numbers.
The Mavericks won the game 128 – 114 with Doncic leading the way. Derrick Jones Jr. added 23 points and 3 rebounds to help the Mavericks win. In their losing effort, the Suns were led by Grayson Allen with 32 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists. Devin Booker added 20 points, 3 rebounds and 10 assists. The Mavericks also stifled Kevin Durant who only managed 16 points, 8 rebounds, and 7 assists.
