For many basketball fans from any generation, in terms of playing style, LeBron James is compared to Magic Johnson. While the two legends have been compared, they have also shared a close relationship off the court. Then, the president of the organization, Johnson was the sole factor in person to lure and bring James to the Los Angeles Lakers. Since then, the Magic has stepped down from his position and leads a life of a businessman.

In a recent episode of “All the Smoke” podcast on “Showtime Basketball” Magic joined co-hosts Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson. The Lakers legend opened up about many issues, including his rookie year in Los Angeles. He opened up about his relationship with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. One of the things that stood out was Magic’s deep appreciation of the King

Barnes raised the fact that the 18x All-Star is going to break Jabbar’s all-time scoring record, and also doing it on a high level. The Showtime Lakers star said that James has been doing it since he was 18 years old. “He’s been doing it since 18 years old and at a high level,” said Johnson. “And even still today, playing at that high level,” said the 5x NBA Champion.

However, the Hall of Famer added that it is LeBron’s basketball IQ and his ability to make his teammates better that makes him special. “But what I really love about LeBron is his basketball IQ… he makes his teammates better,” Magic said. He also said that, even at this age, the 4x MVP has the ability to carry his team. “He…can will his team to victory both with his scoring and passing ability, and then rebounding as well,” he added.

Speaking on LeBron’s longevity, Magic said that the Lakers superstar’s commitment and dedication to his body and craft are admirable. According to him, LeBron has been able to play this long because he can take care of his body. “He’s always been committed to taking care of his body, and that’s why he’s been able to play this long. His impact will be felt long after he’s gone,” said former 3x league MVP.

The legend added that other athletes do not speak about social issues because they don’t want to lose their brand value. “They worry about their brand, they are going to lose endorsements or what people going to say,” said Magic.

However, he added that LeBron never shies away from speaking for his community which is praiseworthy. “His voice especially to causes that affect weather its athletes or black community…he always stands up and tell people what’s right,” said the former Laker.
