“A typical KNICKS thing” Malika Andrews calls out Knicks for ‘RIDICULOUS’ policy at Jalen Brunson event

Guard Jalen Brunson sat down this week for a lengthy discussion mediated by Bill Pidto of MSG and attended by season ticket holders after officially sealing his new $104MM contract with the Knicks. When the New York Knicks ultimately agreed to a sizable deal with Brunson just as free agency got underway, they did an amazing job of landing their guy at MSG. However, ESPN reporter Malika Andrews claimed that the company did a poor job during a recent fan event for its new star.

The New York Knicks made the decision to arrange a press-free unveiling for recently signed free agent Jalen Brunson, who represents their best point acquisition in more than ten years. The event, which was hosted by Bill Pidto of MSG Network, was not open to the general public and was not covered by the team’s daily media. According to the social media, majority of the team’s supporters there either supported the Knicks’ decision or expressed worry that the media had been excluded and Malika Andrews was a part of it.

Is Jalen Brunson the right signing for the Knicks?

Jalen Brunson averaged career-highs of 16.3 PPG, 4.8 APG, 3.9 RPG, and 0.8 SPG across 79 games with the Mavericks in 2021/22, including 61 starts. Luka Doncic, an All-NBA player, and Brunson started together in the backcourt as Dallas made its first trip back to the Western Conference Finals in 11 years. The squad was defeated by the eventual champion Warriors in five games. The 25-year-old Brunson is the son of Rick Brunson, a former NBA point guard who previously played for the Knicks in the 1999–2000 NBA season, who is currently an assistant coach with Tom Thibodeau’s Knicks.

Brunson has never backed down from a challenge or been intimidated by a specific rival. From the high school to the college to the professional tiers, Brunson has triumphed. He earned the tournament’s MVP and led Team USA’s U-19 squad to the World Cup victory in 2015. At Villanova, he won two national titles and was named National Player of the Year in his junior year. Brunson is now stepping into a new world as the point guard for the Knicks, a position in New York sports that comes with a large contract—a four-year, $104 million deal—and extremely high expectations. He is anticipated to fulfill a position that has been vacant for many years.

Malika Andrews blasts the Knicks franchise on ESPN’s ‘NBA Today’.

Malika Andrews criticized the Knicks for how they handled a recent Brunson situation when speaking on NBA Today. The prominent broadcaster said that the Knicks literally prevented the media from attending the ceremony. She stated: “There were no reporters invited or allowed to be in there, which is absolutely ridiculous. And so, Jalen Brunson could not be asked about the potential for who else he likes to see around him or who he would like to see be on the roster for the start of the season”. “Isn’t that a Knick thing?”, Kendrick Perkins asked and she replied laughing: “That is a Knicks thing”.

Malika was really taken aback when she discovered how seriously the organization was taking this by not inviting any media to the event. The co-hosts of Andrews could not have agreed more that this was a “unacceptable” behavior on the corporation. It goes without saying that the New York Knicks continue to have a negative relationship with the media and have been open about sharing their actual thoughts with the people.
