“Nobody DIED” Marcus Smart defends ‘poor’ Ime Udoka with inhuman remarks

“Nobody DIED” Marcus Smart defends ‘poor’ Ime Udoka with inhuman remarks

Ime Udoka and Marcus Smart

Marcus Smart immediately defended Ime Udoka when asked about, and effectively dismissed the topic on NBA media day, which the Boston Celtics were most looking forward to. Everyone was interested in the players’ opinions over the team’s choice to suspend coach Udoka for the whole 2022–23 season.

The whole NBA, including the Celtics’ own players, was startled by the Boston Celtics’ decision to suspend their head coach Ime Udoka for the entire 2022–23 season. Udoka’s first job as a head coach, which was a very successful one, was suspended by the Celtics for one year with immediate effect. He almost brought the Boston squad, which hadn’t been to the Finals in 12 years, the championship against the tenacious Golden State Warriors.

When it was discovered that Udoka had been having an illicit connection with a female team employee, it sparked an investigation and ultimately led to his suspension. During the NBA media day, Marcus Smart expressed his concerns on the topic.

Marcus Smart under Ime Udoka in the 2021-22 season

For the first time, Boston allowed Marcus Smart to serve as its starting point guard for the 2021–22 season. The outcomes were mostly favorable as Smart helped the Celtics reach the NBA Finals, earned Defensive Player of the Year, and averaged a career-high 5.9 assists per game. In his eight-year career, Smart has just twice shot higher than 41 percent from the field, which he did the second time last season. When one considers that the DPOY can guard positions all over the court, get more than 2 steals, and hit 2 triples a game, his shooting is much more acceptable. It is expected for Smart to remain Boston’s starting point guard while backing up Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown on the offensive end.

The NBA Finals marked the conclusion of the Celtics’ remarkable journey. The Golden State Warriors won their fourth title in eight years despite Boston having the advantage in the series. The Warriors needed to win three straight games, including games four and six in Boston, to take the series. Brad Stevens, president of basketball operations, said the group needed more playmaking after the season. After that, Stevens acquired Malcolm Brogdon, a seasoned guard who also contributed 5.9 points per game last season, through trade. Brogdon is anticipated to support Smart and Brown as the sixth man. With Brogdon and Derrick White playing a full season, Boston would be stronger in the backcourt than they have been lately.

Marcus Smart comments on the ‘Udoka Scandal’

Ime Udoka was sacked for having an inappropriate romantic involvement with a team employee. Marcus Smart hasn’t forgotten his relationship with the coach who gave him his first starting role, despite the current controversy and speculations surrounding him. Considering everything Udoka has through recently, Smart said he still loves his head coach and thinks the situation is unfortunate. In an interview during the NBA media day on Monday, Smart implied: “Nobody died. I still love Ime as a person and as a coach. He led us to the Finals. It’s just something unfortunate has happened to him.”

Marcus Smart then mentioned a recent visit from Udoka, which gave him the impression that everything was going as planned. He later said: “It’s been hell for us, just caught by surprise. Nobody really knows anything so we’re just in the wind just like everybody else. The last couple days have been confusing.” Additionally, teammate Jaylen Brown hinted that the players were not given of a lot of information and couldn’t really comment on it.

In comparison to his other teammates, the 2022 DPOY went a little bit further to support Udoka. It is clear that containment of this situation is now necessary. There was some pressure and anticipation because they had reached the NBA Finals the previous season a nd shortly before training camp, there is now a highly contentious off-court controversy involving their coach. As Udoka’s presence will continue to cloud over the Celtics throughout the season, it will be interesting to watch how the rest of the team performs next season.
