Boston Celtics star player Marcus Smart made history last season by becoming just the second point guard after Gary Payton to win the prestigious Defensive Player of the Year award. In his recent interview with Rich Eisen on “The Rich Eisen” show, Marcus shared his thoughts on winning the award. He was budding with happiness, and his excitement was seen even after a long time since his win.

Marcus Smart said, “I couldn’t believe it. It was a dream come true. To not only get acknowledged for what you do and you pride yourself on it but to have the one guy who you’ve looked up on that defensive end, who was the previous recipient of this award before you, who opened the door for guards to even have an opportunity to win this at his size. So, it was incredible. It was an incredible feeling.”

The young Marcus from Dallas, Texas was in top form, and it looked like the Boston Celtics’ run would only stop when they win the title, but they fell short against a formidable Stephen Curry led Golden State Warriors. The Boston Celtics had a top-notch 2021-2022 season barring the performance in the NBA Finals.

The Boston Celtics have officially completed their three previous deals by signing forward Jake Layman, swingman Justin Jackson, and guard Denzel Valentine to their training camp roster. All three veterans are expected to participate in a preseason competition and fight for one of the back-end roster spots on the Celtics team. The club currently has ten players with guaranteed contracts, plus Al Horford receiving a partial guarantee contract.

That leaves three or four spots on the regular season roster for a group of players with non-guaranteed or partially guaranteed salaries. The Boston Celtics are already a power-packed team, and making some key additions will only increase their chances of winning the 2022-2023 season. The Boston Celtics play the Philadelphia 76ers on their opening night on the 19th Oct.
