Matt Barnes backs SOLID reasons why Kyrie Irving will land up with Lakers this off-season
Will Kyrie Irving Join the Lakers in Free Agency?
Matt Barnes and Kyrie Irving
Kyrie Irving’s future in the NBA is uncertain following a disappointing stint with the Dallas Mavericks. However, there has been speculation that the Los Angeles Lakers may be interested in acquiring the All-Star guard. It remains to be seen if they will be successful.
Former Lakers player Matt Barnes suggested on a podcast that the team can attract anyone they want when they decide to go all-in, despite financial obstacles. He believes Irving will not return to the Mavericks this offseason because they were never a good fit from the start.
“When the Lakers want someone, they get him,” said Barnes. “No matter what the cap is, no matter what they have to do when the Lakers want someone, they get him. So it’ll definitely be a Kyrie watch. When they want someone, they make it happen. I don’t expect him to be back in Dallas, to be honest with you. I just don’t know if that was a very good fit, although they didn’t have a ton of time to play together. I just don’t think that’s where he lands this summer.”
The Mavericks may have to fulfill Luka Doncic’s requests to maintain their relationship with him, while the Lakers and other teams could be interested in signing Kyrie Irving when the opportunity arises.
Lakers’ Pursuit of Kyrie Irving
Recent reports suggest that the Lakers’ General Manager, Rob Pelinka, expressed interest in acquiring Kyrie Irving before the trade deadline. However, the cost was considered too steep. However, concerns over D’Angelo Russell’s inconsistency have left fans seeking a more dependable option.
Although the addition of Irving to the Lakers’ roster would create a formidable trio of stars, his current situation with the Mavericks means it is unlikely to happen unless he expresses a genuine interest in leaving. Therefore, while the Lakers were interested in Irving, the price and current circumstances make a deal improbable.
Moreover, the Lakers would need to find a way to fit Kyrie’s salary into their cap space, which could be a challenge given their current roster and financial situation. They would also need to consider the chemistry between Kyrie and the other Lakers’ stars, LeBron James and Anthony Davis.
While the Lakers have been successful in acquiring star players in the past, it’s not a guarantee that they’ll be able to sign Kyrie Irving. Other teams, including the Mavericks, will be competing for his services, and it remains to be seen what factors will influence his decision.
