“No place for hate in this business” Matt Barnes blasts NBA with impassioned Robert Sarver take after suspension of Suns owner
Matt Barnes and Robert Sarver
Matt Barnes is back in the NBA headlines as recently he delivered a fiery take and commented on the biggest controversy in the league at the moment. As Phoenix Suns majority owner, Robert Sarver stands suspended for an entire season and has been fined $10 million by the league due to inappropriate workplace conduct. The league also wants him to “complete training program focused on respect and appropriate workplace conduct”. As he was booked for racism and sexual misconduct at the workplace. Matt Barnes is happy with the actions Adam Silver and the company has taken against Robert Sarver but isn’t satisfied with them. As he believes the punishment should have been worse and he should have been kicked out of the business.
Matt Barnes’ take like always has made sense and many are riding with him. As no one wants to be around such a guy. Robert Sarver was accused of sexual misconduct with several Suns and Mercury staff members. He also bullied them, didn’t treat them well, and yelled and cursed them out with no solid reasoning. But he always denied all such claims and NBA then had to get into it with a detailed investigation and finally he was caught. When around 70 victims confessed against him. So Matt Barnes wanting him kicked out of the league is correct and fair.
The statement released by NBA gave a detailed mentioning of his wrongdoings at the workplace. The report revealed him to be an absolute racist as he used the “N-Word” on at least five different occasions. The investigation also stated that Robert was also “engaged in instances of inequitable conduct toward female employees” and “made many sex-related comments in the workplace.” Fans are really upset knowing about it and are critical of the league for having such a guy in business since 2004.
Matt Barnes comments on the actions taken by NBA against Robert Sarver
Matt Barnes in his latest appearance at SiriusXM NBA Radio discussed the Robert Sarver situation and quoted: “There’s no place for hate in our game… To me the game is so beautiful it’s such a global game. So when stuff like this comes out… You know when you add racism and on top of that the sexual harassment…I think Robert Sarver was a perfect candidate to get kicked out of the NBA, and I’m sure I’m not the only one that feels that way. Unfortunately, the NBA decided not to.”
Yes, Matt Barnes isn’t the only one that feels that way. But one thing we are forgetting is that kicking an owner out of the system is not that easy. Especially, when your evidences are second hand and testimonials and that’s not how legal justifications work. So NBA did a pretty good job in addressing the issue and bringing in a change and they’ll continue to do that.
