“Deja vu” – Memphis Grizzlies SUSPENDS Ja Morant after star guard’s ‘gun flashing’ video went viral (again), leaving NBA fans unsurprised
Ja Morant faces another suspension after a video of him holding a gun on Instagram Live surfaced on Saturday.
Grizzlies suspend Ja Morant after he again flashes apparent gun on social media
Memphis Grizzlies guard Ja Morant is facing another suspension after he was seen holding a gun on Instagram Live on Saturday, just two months after he was banned for a similar incident at a strip club.
The video showed Morant in the passenger seat of a car with a pistol in his hand. The video was quickly deleted, but not before it was captured and shared by several social media users. The NBA and the Memphis Grizzlies are aware of the video and are investigating the matter. Morant has been suspended from all team activities until further notice.
“We are aware of the social media post involving Ja Morant and are in the process of gathering more information,” NBA spokesman Mike Bass said in a statement.
This is not the first time Morant has been in trouble for flashing a gun on social media. In March, he was suspended for eight games by the NBA after he was filmed with a firearm at Shotgun Willie’s, a strip club in Glendale, Colo. He later said the gun was not his and that he had entered a counseling program to deal with his mental health and alcohol issues.
“It’s not who I am. I don’t condone any type of violence, but I’ve taken responsibility for my actions,” Morant told ESPN’s Jalen Rose in an interview after his suspension. “I’m gonna show everybody who Ja really is, what I’m about and change this narrative that nobody got painted over me.”
NBA Twitter Reacts to Ja Morant’s troubled offseason
Morant’s latest gun video is just one of several controversies that have marred his offseason. He has also been accused of assaulting a 17-year-old during a pickup game at his house and threatening a security guard at a Memphis mall.
Here are some of the reactions from Twitter:
These allegations have tarnished Morant’s reputation as one of the most exciting and promising young players in the league. He also missed out on an All-NBA selection and a $38 million bonus on his next contract due to his missed games and off-court issues. He also failed to lead his team past the first round, as they lost to the Los Angeles Lakers in six games.
Morant has a bright future ahead of him, but he also has a lot of baggage behind him. He needs to make better choices and avoid repeating his mistakes if he wants to fulfill his potential and become a true star in the NBA.
