“Michael Jordan has two separate three-peats” NBA analyst believes LeBron James’ achievements are pale in the GOAT debate
Michael Jordan and LeBron James
Michael Jordan and LeBron James are regularly compared on a different levels. While Jordan is early in the game, he is considered as a reference for most of the stat lines, LBJ also has somewhat similar production thought. Both athletes are always compared with respect to their on-court and off-court achievements. The GOAT debate between the two is rather a never-ending argument. However, former NBA player Jalen Rose thinks MJ is much ahead of his challenger.
On “Courtside Club” with Rachel DeMita, former Bulls player Jalen Rose was asked for his top five all-time. Without wasting much time he said, “When you talk about the best players of all time, you ultimately start talking about who’s the GOAT. And when you talk about GOAT, the first word is ‘Greatest.’ That means achieved more than somebody else. And if we’re comparing Michael Jordan and LeBron, for example, Michael Jordan got ten scoring titles LeBron has one. Michael Jordan has been Defensive Player of the Year in the NBA, LeBron hasn’t.”
After comparing their individual accolades, Rose even highlights the championship difference between the two megastars. He added, “Michael Jordan has two separate three-peats, LeBron doesn’t have one three-peat. And so, like, you don’t necessarily even need to watch them play to acknowledge that what Michael Jordan achieved just solely on the court is greater.”
Even Jalen Rose put Bill Russell ahead of LeBron James at no. 2 in the discussion, keeping a daylight distance between two regularly talked about athletes in GOAT conversations. Jordan had 15 seasons career starting from 1985 to 2003. He had some interim retirements, before finally retiring with the Wizards.
Meanwhile, James is entering his 20th season and signed 2 years extension – indicating his willingness to play even more in the league. Though he has just 1 scoring title, he is on course to be the highest point scorer in the regular season with around 1300 points difference between him and the current leader Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.
LeBron James can level with Michael Jordan’s championship Tally.
Soon to be 38 years old LeBron has shown no sign of aging in his game. He rather produced one of his top 3 season performances last season. Had he played 1 more game, he might even have won his 2nd scoring title, with an astonishing average of 30.3 points per game. But his career average is just below 28 points, whereas in GOAT MJ still holds the record of 30.1 points career average.
Nevertheless, there are many MJ achievements, unattainable at the moment for LeBron but he can level with “his Airness” in the championship’s tally. LeBron has won 4 NBA titles and was named Finals MVP in all of those title-winning seasons. MJ has 6 Titles and 6 finals MVP awards. So, LBJ needs 2 championships and if he can win the Finals MVP award also then he can certainly erase that comparison point between him and Michael Jordan.
LeBron signing a 2-year extension gives him min 3-season’s window to win those 2 precious trophies. The Los Angeles Lakers are also trying hard to give potent support to LeBron, with the addition of some young talented players on the roster. But the western conference and league have become more and more competitive and the Lakers might have to add at least another All-Star caliber player alongside Anthony Davis and LBJ to give themself a strong chance in the title race.
