Michael Jordan is finalizing the sale of the Charlotte Hornets, ending his 13-year tenure as majority owner of the team.

Michael Jordan has been part of Charlotte’s organization since 2006. After serving 4 years as the president of basketball operations, he decided to buy the team and become the majority owner of the Charlotte Hornets franchise, becoming the first former player in history to have a major stake in an NBA team.

After Jordan took charge of Charlotte’s organization, the team failed to win a Playoffs series through 13 years and never saw real success during the Goat’s tenure with the drafting of LaMelo Ball serving as the only highlight of his time with the organization.

The team as a whole was valued at $3 billion given the terms of the agreement, according to a person familiar with its details who was not authorized to discuss them publicly and spoke on the condition of anonymity. Jordan hasn’t disclosed the percentage of his stake that he would sell but he is expected to be a minority stakeholder.

Jordan will still oversee basketball operations through next Thursday’s NBA Draft and will still be in power till the start of NBA free agency and is expected to have a presence with the franchise following the sale of his stakes.

After Michael Jordan announced that he will be selling his stakes in the Hornet’s franchise, the NBA fans on Twitter were quick to mock Jordan for his failure as the team’s majority owner. The team failed to have any kind of success in the past 13 years as they were consistently ranked at the bottom of the League and found very little success in NBA Draft lotteries.

After the Hornets missed out on the No.1 pick at this year’s NBA draft, losing the chance to draft Victor Wembanyama Michael Jordan will finally hand over the mantle to a group led by Gabe Plotkin and Rick Schnall, ending a run as an owner of the franchise that was filled with mediocrity and little success.

The Fans were trolling Jordan as he has never won anything outside of his run with the Chicago Bulls in the 90s.

Although Jordan might part ways with the Hornets, he will still be operating in the shadows of the organization as he is not planning to sell his whole stake of the franchise, Jordan’s tenure as an owner might be ugly but his time with the Hornets made him one of the first sportsperson to become a billionaire.
