However, it will take a historic effort for Giannis Antetokounmpo to beat LeBron James as The King himself is 5-0 as all-star captain. Since the introduction of the captain format, LeBron has been captain every year and his team has won every single time. LeBron and Giannis first faced off in 2019 when Giannis won his first league MVP. Giannis was the top scorer that game but Kevin Durant walked away with All-star MVP.

However, this year’s all-star game does have a twist like never before. The NBA usually makes the captains draft their teams before the weekend, however this time they will do it 30 minutes before tip-off. This has the added pressure of selecting in front of a crowd which will make it an exciting watch for sure. Giannis has said he would look forward to being able to draft his Bucks teammate Jrue Holiday who he has good chemistry. Jrue Holiday will take part in his first-ever all-star game this year.

Giannis has never been shy of the spotlight during All-star weekend. He had that iconic dunk on Steph curry back in the 2017 all-star game. Later in that game, Curry laid down on the floor to avoid being dunked on by Giannis again. The clip went viral and so did Giannis. However performance-wise he was at his peak at the 2021 all-star game. He dropped 35 points on perfect 16/16 shooting.

The Greek Freak also broke Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s franchise record of six straight All-star appearances for the Milwaukee Bucks. Giannis picked up his 7th selection in a row in 2023 which broke a 28-year-old record. Giannis has been on a tear lately this season as well, averaging 37 points over his last 10 games as the Bucks have won their last 10 straight games. He would definitely be looking to carry on this form in Salt Lake City.

Giannis has the momentum coming into this matchup as LeBron and the Lakers have not been in the best of form. However, LeBron will look to dominate on the back of his record-breaking season and Greek Freak will want to stop the King’s reign in Utah. Although don’t be surprised to see youngsters like Luka or legends like Steph steal the show as they normally do on this stage.
