“Nailing herself to a cross?” Mina Kimes SLAMS Jason Whitlock for overtly criticizing the ESPN Star for no reason amidst ethnic slur fiasco
How Mina Kimes Shut Down Racist Critics with One Tweet
Mina Kimes is one of the most popular and respected sports analysts at ESPN. She covers a variety of topics, from NFL to NBA to soccer, with insight, humor and intelligence. She is also a proud Korean-American who often celebrates her heritage and culture on social media.
However, not everyone appreciates Kimes’ talent and personality. Recently, she became the target of a racist remark by a Boston sports radio host, Chris Curtis, who used an ethnic slur against her during a discussion about mini liquor bottles. Curtis later claimed he meant to say actress Mila Kunis instead of Kimes, but his apology was not convincing.
The incident sparked outrage among many fans and colleagues of Kimes, who expressed their support and solidarity with her. Kimes herself responded with grace and wit, changing her Twitter profile picture to Kunis’ photo and tweeting a GIF of Bart Simpson rolling his eyes.
But one person who did not see anything wrong with Curtis’ comment was Jason Whitlock, a former ESPN personality who now works for Blaze Media, a conservative-leaning outlet. Whitlock took to Twitter to accuse Kimes of playing the victim and overreacting to the slur. He also questioned her credibility as a sports analyst and implied that she was hypocritical for listening to rap music that uses the N-word.

ESPN stands by Mina Kimes after racist remark by Boston radio host
ESPN has backed Mina Kimes, a prominent sports analyst, who was the subject of a racist slur by a Boston radio host. Chris Curtis of WEEI-FM used an ethnic slur against Kimes, who is Korean-American while talking about mini liquor bottles on Wednesday. He later said he meant to say actress Mila Kunis.
“There is no place for these type of hateful comments, which were uncalled for and extremely offensive,” ESPN said in a statement.
Kimes changed her Twitter profile picture to Kunis’ photo and tweeted a GIF of Bart Simpson rolling his eyes.
Many fans and colleagues of Kimes supported her on social media and praised her work as a senior writer and an NFL Live analyst.
“Mina is one of my favorite people at ESPN. She’s smart, funny, talented and kind. She doesn’t deserve this kind of disrespect,” tweeted Pablo Torre, who co-hosts ESPN Daily with Kimes.
Curtis apologized and accepted a one-week suspension without pay. He said he regretted his remark and did not intend to say Kimes’ name.
