“What they did this offseason…is SMART” NBA Analyst believes Joe Lacob, Warriors did the right thing to let go off Porter Jr, Gary Payton II prior to 2022-23 season

Brian Geltzeiler hails Joe Lacob and the Warriors masterstroke
Joe Lacob and Golden State Warriors may have lost some raw talent in their contingent, but the NBA analyst Brian Geltzeiler feels like this was the right call. It seems like only yesterday the duo of Gary Payton II and Otto Porter Jr. were celebrating on the streets of the Bay Area. Dub Nation rallied their Mastermind Steve Kerr and King, Stephen Curry and his Championship heroes home, holding their pride and the Larry O’Brian trophy aloft, as San Francisco basked in the celebrations.
Gary Payton II and Otto Porter Jr. were both significant contributors to the Warriors playoff triumph, on thier way to remeption. “You don’t wanna see us next year”, These were Stephen Curry’s words on May 21st, 2021 after a disappointing loss to the Grizzlies in the Play-In Tournament. About 11 months down the line, the Warriors have stepped up and claimed what is theirs, their opponents have bowed down, and the haters are nowhere to be seen, as the Golden State Warriors clinch their 4th NBA Title in 8 seasons.
“I think it was smart” – Joe Lacob and the Golden State Warriors conjuring another masterplan as they let Otto Porter Jr. and Gary Payton II leave San Francisco

The Golden State Warriors’ roster includes a lot of guys who are still young in the league, and haven’t proven themselves. But players like Jordan Poole, Otto Porter Jr., Gary Payton II and Kevon Looney fit well within the system, as displayed in the playoffs this year. Otto Porter Jr., Gary Payton II and Juan Toscano-Anderson parted ways with the franchise, leaving a void in terms of talent and grit. Many people were shocked and rather unpleased with this move, however, Brian Geltzeiler believes that there is bigger plan at stake here.
“I think what the Warriors did this offseason in letting the guys go, that they let go, I think it was smart. You’re gonna sign Poole to an extension at some point or another. Kuminga and Moody and Wiseman don’t come that much later if you’re gonna build around these guys and still wanna keep a couple of these older guys that have won four championships for you.” These were Brian’s words on the 95.7 channel
There was a lot of speculation about where Draymond Green and Golden State will be at the end of this NBA season, after suffering their worst couple of years in recent history, and a roster with young energy but no experience. People forget that ‘Warriors’ is their name, it is a part of who they are, winning is in their DNA. The Big story this season for the Warriors was the evolution of Jordan Poole, and getting him a new extension would be at the top of their list.

It is a known fact that the Golden State Warriors are one of the highest luxury tax-paying teams in the league. Ahead of the 2022-23 season, the team had two important contracts with Andrew Wiggins and Jordan Poole, which they wanted to extend, as they could only sign Kevon Looney from free agency this year.
However they will be glad that the ‘Big 3’ of thier team is intact and happy as they hope to bring more talent to Golden State. The horrific end to the 2019 NBA Finals, which saw Klay suffering a torn ACL, coupled with 2 of their worst seasons in recent history, some people were assuming the dynasty had died, well, seems like it won’t so soon!
