“Magic Johnson … in his third year in the NBA had Paul Westhead run out of the Lakers” NBA analyst not surprised knowing Kevin Durant wanting Steve Nash and Sean Marks out
Kevin Durant wanting out of the Brooklyn Nets has a much deeper reason behind it. He recently demanded to be chosen over general manager Sean Marks and Head Coach Steve Nash, according to the Athletic. The player also expressed having no hope for the franchise based on the direction they are headed.
The 12x All-Star demanded a trade right after former champion and teammate Kyrie Irving signed a $36.5 million one-year contract extension after expecting to sign a bigger offer. The former finals MVP has told sources that his only intention is to win. But the Nets are not the ideal situation for that according to him.
Kevin Durant fails to find himself a new home
According the several league sources, Marks had apparently reached out to every team in hopes of landing a perfect package deal. Unfortunately, no team has been able to match the high value put up by the general manager. The Slim Reaper signed a four-year $198 million extension with the Nets a month before wanting out.
Initially, the Phoenix Suns, Miami Heat and Toronto Raptors were front runners for landing a trade. The Suns had the closest odds of swapping Deandre Ayton and few other players of their rotation. The Valley ended up matching every offer put on the table for him to stay. Recently, the Boston Celtics agreed to send Jaylen Brown, Derrick White and a first-round pick. No deal has been confirmed but are still in negotiation.
Rob Parker is not surprised over Kevin Durant’s ultimatum
Many experts came forth criticising Nets owner Joe Tsai for allowing Kevin Durant to demand with aggression. However, Rob Parker claims that several other players have also done it in the past. “Magic Johnson was one of the most revered players in NBA history. In his third year in the NBA, (Magic) had Paul Westhead ran out of the Lakers as head coach.“
“Where are all those people like, ‘Oh, Kevin Durant is the worst guy in the world.’ I’m not defending Kevin Durant by any stretch of the imagination. This is not new, and I agree… whether they write it or not that Tom Brady as long as Bruce Arians was there was gonna retire. … This is the part of the NBA. It’s not new.”
