Brooklyn Nets and Los Angeles Lakers are in the trade market, for a different reasons. Nets are shopping for their star players after various trade rumors, while Lakers are buyers, looking to add some more star power to their roster. In the City of Angels, LeBron James is hoping to get his friend, and former teammate, Kyrie Irving in a Lakers jersey. Lakers had back-to-back poor seasons following their championship run in 2020 while Kyrie Irving is widely expected to be traded this summer after three chaotic seasons in Brooklyn. As per insiders, the Lakers have long been considered the favorites to land him and LeBron James is doing everything he could to get the deal sealed.
So far, trade talks haven’t progressed very far and both sides find themselves in a stand-off as the offseason rages on. But pressure from marquee player LeBron James could force the Lakers to act quickly and land the talented guard. According to The Athletic’s Jovan Buha, James has been pressing for the front office, even sacrificing some of the future picks to pull off a deal for Irving.

It’s no surprise that James is looking for his “championship-winning” partner in Los Angeles. Former Rookie of the season was one of the reasons LBJ went back to Cleveland back in 2015, they made it to 4 consecutive NBA Finals together, winning one in 2016. Despite his best efforts, the Russell Westbrook experiment has been a complete disaster, and replacing him with a proven winner in Kyrie would drastically alter the team’s title chances moving forward – as per LeBron James.
For Irving’s part, he is making his intentions known. After showing up to an LA Sparks game last night, it is widely believed that Kyrie will don the Purple and Gold eventually.
“Kyrie Irving absolutely wants to be a Los Angeles Laker,” said Brian Windhorst “This we know. The Lakers want Kyrie Irving. This we know. But making that happen that’s a different story. We don’t really get a good feeling there’s any team seriously on the market for Kyrie right now beyond the Lakers. It’s doesn’t mean they don’t like him or value him, they just don’t want to pay a potential price the Nets are asking. This is one of those things where we just have to wait and see. I doubt Kyrie will be back [with Brooklyn], I think he’ll be on the Lakers, but I don’t know when it will happen.”
LeBron has an idea about the market situation, and if the Lakers could not get Irving this transfer window, then they might have to wait for another year to sign “free agent” Kyrie” or worst change of hearts could keep Kyrie with the Nets for another 2-3 seasons, which King James is not willing to risk. Really, it’s these next few days and weeks that will ultimately determine the future of the Lakers and the rest of the NBA for that matter.
Of course, nothing is guaranteed in the NBA. Talented Kyrie’s recent attitude has irked many NBA Fans, while his franchise is looking to part ways with him. Also playing with a similar resume, Westbrook failed miserably at the Lakers to the extent that it surprised everyone. So fans are looking for playing with the people at hand.
