Russell Westbrook has become a household name in the NBA for various different reasons but mostly for his legendary performances over the years leading the Oklahoma City Thunder. He was drafted by the team in 2008 and spent a decade of his career with the team. He had a unique stat record of averaging a triple-double for four seasons and recorded the most all-time as well.
He left his home team three years ago in pursuit of a championship. This year was not particularly the best season he has ever had. The Los Angeles Lakers fell short of the playoffs and the situation grew toxic over time with Brodie accusing the franchise for not letting him play himself. But due to the recent changes, it seems like he will opt in for the $47.1 million player contract for another season under newly acquired Darvin Ham.
Russell Westbrook gets the key to Oklahoma City
Russell Westbrook spent 11 years as a guard on OKC’s roster. He was extremely successful and made multiple title runs in between alongside Kevin Durant. The veteran had also made a lot of contributions towards the community in Oklahoma. In honor of the moves he has made for the community of Oklahoma City, they gave a key to the city.
The former NBA most valuable player had this to say to the officials and citizens of the city, “I want to continue to support things in Oklahoma City as much as I can. This place was home for me and still is for me.” Russ is still very much beloved by the people of his former franchise and his work during his time with them was tremendous. Off court, he has been part of numerous projects in the city and built a court for the kids of the city in ties with his “WHY NOT? Foundation.”

Russell Westbrook was rewarded the key for what he gave as a token of appreciation towards the city that drafted him. But another player had also been there and contributed close to what he has, the name is Kevin Durant. Fans were blatant in the comments sections calling out Oklahoma City for forgetting about KD.
