“I don’t know if he can be consistently focused on basketball” NBA Insider believes Kyrie Irving has never faced constant scrutiny before
Kyrie Irving
Kyrie Irving is undoubtedly one of the best point guards in the league right now. He is also the most skilled player in the league. But recently the disrespect on his name has been unreal but at the end of the day, he deserves most of it. As it’s his actions that have landed him in the trouble. Kyrie Irving’s COVID-19 vaccination drama started it all and then him not being available for the team just added on to it. This really burnt the bridge between him and the management of the team. As everyone wants people around them who they can trust, unlike Uncle Drew who can bounce off the playing roster at any time.
Kyrie Irving even fought for getting a max extension this summer but nothing worked for him and he eventually opted in for the player option giving up on his dream of getting a max extension. He was on the wheels and had spiced-up rumors of joining hands with LeBron James-led Los Angeles Lakers. But Kevin Durant’s trade situation has changed it all and now the Nets are running it back with their superstar duo. Kyrie Irving and KD both are very capable players but Brian Windhorst believes Uncle Drew isn’t ready and doubts him to be consistently focused on basketball even though he is locked in with the Nets.
Brian Windhorst on Kyrie Irving never being under constant scrutiny
Brian Windhorst appeared on “The Dan Patrick Show” and discussing the situation around KD and especially Kyrie Irving quoted: “He has an incredible incentive to have a low-stress great season. He has seen that his windows to leave Brooklyn are not that open. Now, there’s a lot more cap space next summer than there is this summer. He’d have more options. But he’s never been sort of under this kind of scrutiny before. He’s got one year on his contract and he needs to prove that it’s going to work. So, I don’t know if Kyrie has it in him to be consistently focused on basketball and to deliver. He may not have it. We obviously know that on an individual night he can be spectacular, but if it is ever gonna happen, it’s gonna happen in this situation.”
Further, Brian Windhorst talking about Kyrie Irving added: “I think the Nets will put themselves in the best chance to succeed with this Kyrie that they could. It doesn’t mean that it will, but I think there’s a level of buy-in.” Honestly, the insider isn’t all wrong but Kai has still got a chance out there and we hope he won’t miss. As one good season and he’ll get back all the respect he deserves with a good offer on the table.
