“If they do what they did, Lakers would smoke everybody” NBA Insider details how a healthy Anthony Davis and LeBron James could take over the league
LeBron James and Anthony Davis
Los Angeles Lakers fans would be eager to see their dynamic duo LeBron James and Anthon Davis playing together again. Though they have not essentially improved their squad drastically, they certainly have made the required adjustments in their roster. So, they are relying on the contributions of LeBron James and Anthony Davis to carry the team into the 2023 season, considering Russell Westbrook as an extra “amenity” if he improves his game in the upcoming season. While NBA analyst Max Kellerman also recognizes the duo’s incredible talent, he is skeptical about their health.
Los Angeles Lakers were expected to make an array of trades to make a team champion contender yet again, but they remained considerably silent and even determined on their valuations during this off-season. Even throughout the offseason, the Lakers have emphasized how much they will be utilizing Davis. According to recent reports, they will run their offense through him, putting faith in their forward/center.
On “This Just In,” show, ESPN’s analysts Max Kellerman and Tim Bontemps discussed the Lakers, upcoming season in detail and also debated whether the Lakers will win 45 or more games. Although Bontemps believes it will be difficult to reach out to 45 wins, Kellerman put confidence in healthy James and AD to carry the Lakers into a winning position.
Max Kellerman puts Los Angeles Lakers in a commanding position, with healthy LeBron James and Anthony Davis.
Western Conference is a very competitive one and always has shown improvements with new talent coming in every season. Los Angeles Lakers though won the 2020 NBA championship in Bubble, they never showed a huge upgrade following that feat. 17-time World Champions were heavily reliant on Anthony Davis and LeBron James in the following seasons, which is understandable to some extent but never gonna be sufficient.
In the 2021 and 2022 seasons, Anthony Davis and LBJ played nearly half of the Lakers’ regular season games and the effect was clearly visible, as the Lakers struggled to keep a firm grip on their title contention. Especially in 2022, when the Lakers invested massively in Russell Westbrook, they were title favorites, but things didn’t turn out as scripted; and the team’s load once again fell on Anthony Davis and LeBron James.
Analyst Keller mentioned the same thing as he said, “People who just write them off that way are saying AD is done as a 60-plus game a year player. He was always injured a lot. But usually 62 games a season, something like this, then recently not even 40.”
Keeping that in mind, and the talent that those two superstars possess, Max Keller gave them a huge chance of making the playoffs with ease. “If AD gets into 62 games and LeBron gets into 68 games 65 games, the last time they did that, they smoked everybody. (Denver’s Nikola) Jokic and Jamal Murray were no match for them. No match.”
Los Angeles Lakers have filled their roster with rotation players. They even rectified last year’s mistake by adding younger stars to their roster, but inexperienced ones need some guidance and even support from their leaders.
The Lakers and head coach Darvin Ham are positive the duo of LeBron James and Davis can replicate their 2020 success. Both have been working out this offseason and are determined to usher in a new-look Lakers next season.
