“NBA missed the mark,” Jay Williams believes Ja Morant should’ve been SUSPENDED ‘without pay’ for his controversial gun violence
Ja Morant returned to the court after missing a series of games due to suspension. However, Jay Williams believes the PG should have been suspended for the rest of the season without pay.
Ja Morant returned to action on Wednesday night after missing a number of games because of a league-imposed suspension. He came off the bench as the Memphis Grizzlies faced the Houston Rockets, finishing with 17 points and five assists in a 130-125 victory after missing nine games (eight due to suspension).
Many fans were delighted when the rising star returned to the court. Furthermore, while he spent time away from the team, several people were concerned about his well-being. However, ESPN’s Jay Williams blasted the league and feels Morant should have been suspended for the duration of the season for his involvement in the gun violence controversy.
Speaking on the incident, Williams said, “I do believe the NBA missed the mark on his suspension. I thought he should’ve been suspended for the rest of the regular season without pay, and his return should have been subject to successful counseling from the NBA.”
Morant landed himself in hot water after a live stream showed the Grizzlies superstar waving around a firearm in a strip club. He faced suspension for his antics and underwent counseling at a Florida facility.
Ja Morant and the Grizzlies will be targeting a strong finish to the season
Willaims may have expected the point guard to be suspended for the remainder of the season. Morant, however, was not, which represents a huge opportunity for him to redeem himself. Looking forward, he and his teammates will aim to end the season on a high note.
Despite the absence of Morant, the Grizzlies have succeeded in remaining on course, winning seven of their last ten games. Furthermore, they are on a four-game winning run. They now have a 45-27 record and comfortably sit in second place in the Western Conference.
As the postseason looms, the Grizzlies are 3.5 games behind the Denver Nuggets (49-24) for the No. 1 seed. They have ten games left in the regular season and will face the Houston Rockets again on Friday night. The team will then hit the road for a game against the Atlanta Hawks before beginning a three-game homestand. They’ll lock horns with the Orlando Magic and will play a pair of games against the Los Angeles Clippers.
It’ll be interesting to see what the future holds for Ja Morant and the Memphis Grizzlies.
