The Minnesota Timberwolves suffered an embarrassing loss to the shorthanded Portland Trailblazers, and Karl Anthony-Towns was the butt of the joke. KAT scored 8 points and nine rebounds while attempting three shots over 25 minutes. KAT picked up five fouls in the game, and thus the lack of minutes; however, fans still feel 25 was enough to rack up more shots.
“5 fouls and three shots from your top player is honestly just lack of effort, which has always been his issue even before coming to the league,” said one user on Reddit. Karl Anthony-Towns has been criticized for his ‘laziness’ on an NBA court his whole career, and most fans feel that is what has stopped him from being a superstar player. KAT showed signs of this in last year’s playoffs when he picked up early fouls in a crucial game that cost Minnesota.
“Dude may be one of the dumbest/lowest bbiq “all star” guys in the league,” said another Reddit commenter. KAT is a three-time all-star, but fans doubt his all-star capabilities after watching him have such outings. KAT has the skills as he has won a three-point contest and is one of the best shooting big men. However, he struggles on defense and needs to be more consistent for Minnesota when it has mattered.

Karl Anthony-Towns and Timberwolves have started slipping in the race for the play-ins despite Anthony Edwards’ heroic efforts
The Timberwolves have lost three games in a row and are two games away from the drop. The only thing saving Minnesota is that Dallas seems to show no intention of making the play-ins going 1-7 in their last eight games and dropping from the 6th seed in February to the 11th seed right now. After picking up an injury early on, Karl Anthony-Towns has only played a small part of this season.
Of the 26 games he has played for Minnesota, they have gone 12-14, whereas the Wolves are 27-26 without him. Despite his skillset, the numbers do not show any difference when he is on or off the court, and that is due to the rise of stars like Anthony Edwards on this team. Edwards scored 37 points in their loss to the Blazers last night in a valiant effort to save the game.
The Wolves are the 9th seed in the Western Conference and could be set up for a play-in match against the Oklahoma City Thunder. Minnesota did win 3/4 games against OKC this season and will have home-court advantage as long as they can have an equal or better record. The way the Wolves are slipping right now, it looks like OKC might snatch the 9th seed away from them.
