NBA Trade Rumors: Los Angeles Lakers show interest in 2021 Sixth Man of the Year

LeBron James, Anthony Davis, Russell Westbrook at Los Angeles Lakers

With the Los Angeles Lakers making big moves this off-season such as the LeBron James‘ contract extension and the Patrick Beverley trade, it seems they are still not done yet as they are interested in making a deal with the Utah Jazz who recently traded Donovan Mitchell.

While the Lakers were hoping to get Kyrie Irving from the Nets, him moving out of Brooklyn had a lot of weightage on whether Kevin Durant would be staying with the team, and after Brooklyn management and KD solved their differences out. The Lakers landing Irving seems to be out of the picture as he will most probably stay now.

The Lakers trading for Patrick Beverley was a step in a good direction, as the Lakers were one of the worst performers in the aspect of defence and with Pat Beverley on the team, he can give the push the Lakers desperately require defensively. But with Beverley comes a whole new issue for the Lakers. As the history between Pat and Russell Westbrook is known for the bad blood and deep personal rivalry between the two.

The Lakers have had two bad performing seasons right after winning the championship in 2020. LeBron and The Lakers are looking to get back in the title picture. While they may not get Irving, they have not completely lost hope as they set their eyes toward the Utah roster for firepower to add to their own squad.

With the recent Donovan trade to Cleveland, the Jazz have basically announced they are going into a franchise rebuild and are looking to send out some more players who have been instrumental to the team before. This include Bojan Bogdanovic, Mike Conley, and Jordan Clarkson. Russell Westbrook last season was not a good fit on the Lakers, having one of his worst seasons and not living up to the expectations of both the fans and the Lakers. It seems best for both the Lakers and Westbrook to part ways.

With Danny Ainge’s latest venture of trading Mitchell and gaining a sizeable package in return, The executive will be looking to do the same with the players in question. Russell Westbrook may expect to hear his name in the news going forward regarding any trade that involves the Lakers.

Jordan Clarkson reunion could help Lakers win a title

Jordan Clarkson is a former Laker himself, drafted by Los Angeles back in 2014. But it was in Utah, where he showed his best potential becoming an important part of the team coming off the bench and was even named 2021’s Sixth Man of The Year, and playing an important role in the Jazz reaching the Conference Finals.

Jordan Clarkson on the other hand can become an important key to the Lakers’ aspiration for a title. Playing with LeBron before, the sixth man has a familiarity with The King and his playstyle and can quickly and easily adapt to what the Lakers allocate him on the court. And being a dependable scorer, Clarkson can have an impact on the scoreboard as well and as a former Laker, the fans will be elated to have one of their own returning.
