Brooklyn Nets were in shock with Kevin Durant springing a trade request. The particular team had just tied their main man for 4 seasons at the start of the 2022 season and after a horrific end to it, they were hit hard by the trade request. All eyes are now on the Brooklyn Nets, as they hold the keys to any possible trade, and fans want to see how they are going to respond. Brooklyn Nets just received confirmation from Kyrie Irving, committing his last year of contract exercising “player-option”. But they still might be losing one of their star this offseason, as the front office now has to find a new home for Kevin Durant.

Many stars have expressed their desires to be traded before for competitive basketball or for championships. But a similar situation with Durant is an entirely different thing. For starters, he is still one of the league’s top players and will be traded with a guaranteed 4-years contract. Last season, he averaged 29.9 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 6.4 assists per game, while averaging 27 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 assists over 15 years career.

The two-time Finals MVP also won 4 scoring championships and won the 2014 regular season MVP award also. With such impressive individual accolades by his name and a 4-year-long contract, whichever team lands him will have a legitimate chance for longer control over the league.

While on SirusXM NBA Radio, Brian Geltzeiler weighed in on the developing saga. Looking at all the factors at play, he feels the Brooklyn Nets should be looking for a massive return in exchange for their prized asset.

He said, “You’re not going to get something as sure as this right now, where you have a guy that immediately turns you into a title contender and can be the best player on a team that wins a championship. This is an all-time great. This is Kevin Durant. If you’re the Nets, ask for the world.”

In 2019 Brooklyn Nets were in a similar position when they were considered title favorites after landing Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving through free agency. But frequent injuries kept both their stars out for a longer period than one would expect and they failed to deliver any silverware at the Nets.

Now that Kevin Durant is looking to move away, the Nets may be back to mid-table contention, but they could get quality players and future drafts for KD. Importantly, the Nets have the blueprint that has already been laid out for a star trade. Anthony DavisJames Harden, Paul George, and recently Rudy Gobert warranted massive hauls when they were dealt to other teams.

Interestingly all the above-mentioned stars are great players and yet they are not in the same tier as Durant. Quality-wise many might argue for their favorite stars, but no player other than Gobert had a long-term contract like KD to go with the trade. With this in mind, Brooklyn’s front office has a massive deal in hand.

There is no prediction of how things will end, but the Nets should receive a historic return for Durant. The NBA has seen star trades before, but the Kevin Durant trade could trump all others considering the seismic shift it will cause in the league. Everyone is eager for the conclusion of the drama that started back a week ago, but it won’t be happening very soon.
