“No tolerance for the promotion of any form of hate speech” Nets issue statement on Kyrie Irving’s apparent support of antisemitic film
Kyrie Irving
The Brooklyn Nets star Kyrie Irving was recently in the news for supporting a film with antisemitic themes. However, the Nets management has issued a statement against the point guard’s support for the film ‘Hebrews to Negroes: Wake Up Black America.’ The Nets have also denounced all forms of discrimination.
The initial statement was put forth by the Nets Daily via Twitter. It said, “The Brooklyn Nets strongly condemn and have no tolerance for the promotion of any form of hate speech. We believe that in these situations, our first action must be open, honest dialogue. We thank those, including the ADL, who have been supportive during this time.”
The Nets daily also clarified that this statement was tweeted as a direct response to Kyrie Irving. Everyone understands that Kyrie was trying to extend his support to the Black community. But his actions have only made it seem like he is pulling down other communities. This is not the first time he has caused issues for the Nets. His refusal to take the COVID-19 vaccine last season also created a huge blunder for them.
Former Miami Heat head coach against Kyrie Irving for promoting an antisemitic film
After the Nets’ statement came out on Kyrie Irving, former Miami Heat Head coach Stan Van Gundy approved the statement and condemned the former champion for his support of the film. Van Gundy was an assistant with the Heat from 1995-2003 before taking over as head coach from 2003-05.
Stan replied in reaction to a tweet that ESPN’s Adrain Wojnarowski had posted. Even the Nets’ owner Joe Tsai was unhappy with Kyrie’s behavior. The owner expressed his disappointment and claimed he would make sure to have a word with his All-Star employee. The point guard’s actions are more damaging to his image rather than his team’s.
