The Nets were giving a tough competition to the Celtics at their home, but the crowd present in TD garden was there to make Kyrie regret his decision to play against the Celtics at his former home. But the Nets star didn’t hold back as he replied to the fans in his own way which will surely earn him some fines. Kyrie started showing middle fingers to fans who were insulting him from the sidelines there was even a clip where he made a mid-range shot and showed his middle finger to the fans while on his way to the other side of the court.

In this whole game, Irving was booed mercifully by the fans and it seems that this is not going to end until the series ends. When Kyrie was asked about it during the postgame interview, he said:

“It’s the same energy they have for me, and I’m gonna have the same energy for them,” Irving said. “And it’s not every fan. I don’t want to attack every Boston fan. But when people start yelling, ‘p****’ or ‘b****’ and ‘f*** you’ and all that stuff, there’s only so much you can take as a competitor.”

Irving further said, “We’re the ones who are expected to be docile and be humble and take a humble approach. Nah, f*** that. It’s the playoffs.”

He added, “I know what to expect in here and it’s the same energy I’m giving back to them. It is what it is. I’m not really focused on it. It’s fun. Again, where I’m from, I’ve dealt with so much, so coming in here, you relish it as a competitor.”

Kyrie Irving concluded by saying, “I’m gonna keep repeating myself: This isn’t my first time at TD Garden. So what you guys saw and what you guys think as entertainment or fans think as entertainment — all is fair in competition. So, if somebody’s gonna call me out on my name, I’m gonna look at them straight in the eye and see if they’re really about it. Most of the time, they’re not.”

Although Kyrie was not playing in a favorable environment, he still managed to score 39 points but it was not enough for the Nets to beat Celtics as they got edged out by 114-115. The Nets are now down by one in the first round and they need to kick start their engine before the Celtics get full control over the series.
