Seth Curry and Marcus Smart came face to face in the Brooklyn Nets’ game against the Boston Celtics. In what was assumed to be a matchup favoring the Nets after their Game 1 loss to their rivals following the heroics of their star player Jayson Tatum, the team lost yet again, in fact, even worse this time, increasing the difference which was of 1-point last time, to 7 in game 2. Like Charles Barkley had stated, in order for the Nets to win, both their star players, Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant would have to perform exceptionally, which didn’t happen this time, resulting in their loss.
Though the Nets might have lost, Curry managed to hand over an L to Celtics’ Smart who is the DPOY this time.
Marcus Smart from the Boston Celtics was elected as the Defensive player Of the Year (DPOY) this time, making him the first guard to become the DPOY, but his reign as the best defensive player seems to have been short lived as his indecisive plays in the game against Nets’ Seth Curry highlighted the holes in his defense raising questions regarding the credibility of the award, and if that even means anything or is just handed out to anyone who has a few good games, sparking outrage on social media.
With Marcus Smart highlighting holes in his defense and the Boston Celtics winning the game, making their lead 2-0 in the series, the Game 2 between Boston Celtics and the Brooklyn Nets was a high intensity game. Boston Celtics won Game 2 of the first-round playoff series against the Brooklyn Nets in a dominant fashion, stopping their star players, Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant from carrying their team to victory. In the previous game, the crowd got under Irving’s skin in order to stop him from performing, an effort in which they were unsuccessful, but this time, the Celtics’ defense came in handy and managed to stop both the stars and limit them to a low number of points.
Despite the Nets’ loss, Curry managed to get a W against Smart when they both came face to face. When Curry received the ball on the opposite end of the court, he waited for a second and then shot a 3-pointer while Smart was busy deciding what he was supposed to do and what he wasn’t supposed to do. Smart’s defense in the entirety of the game didn’t seem in place which made people on social media question his credibility of becoming the DPOY.
