Giannis Antetokounmpo and Nic Claxton
The Brooklyn Nets sought to win their eighth straight game when they faced the Milwaukee Bucks on December 23. They succeeded in their mission, but not without controversy. Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Bucks pulled Nic Claxton, the starting center for the Nets, to the ground by his arm in the closing seconds of the third quarter.
Despite the fact that nothing happened following the play in the game, Claxton objected to the acts of the two-time Most Valuable Player. Following the competition, Claxton posted an Instagram story video of the play and a poll asking, “Is this basketball?” For what it’s worth, the poll found that 26% of respondents agreed and 74% disagreed.
The Nets entered the game with the NBA’s longest active winning streak, but it was clear from the first tip that they felt they had something to prove. The majority of the clubs that Brooklyn defeated during this run either had a key player out injured or were simply not very good. The Bucks‘ defeat would guarantee their status as contenders.
In the game, the Nets had a 23-point lead at one point. Milwaukee, though, was not going down without a fight. By the end of the third quarter, they had narrowed the deficit to 10 points, and several times in the fourth they appeared to be pulling even.

Claxton had brashly proclaimed himself to be among the NBA’s top defenders. The big man stated that he ought to be in the DPOY conversation and expressed an extreme degree of confidence in his assertion, and for what it’s worth the defender has solid facts to back him up.
Speaking to the media, Claxton expressed his satisfaction with his performance this season, during which he has averaged 11.8 points, 8.6 rebounds, and 2.3 blocks for Brooklyn. He said, “Honestly, I feel like I’m one of the best defenders in the league. I feel like I should be in the talk for Defensive Player of the Year. I feel like I haven’t been getting the respect I deserve,”
He further added, “We’ve been winning, my numbers are good. I’ve been protecting the rim, guarding one through five. So it’s just me being me, doing what I do, bringing that energy. And it’s great for the team.”
There is no disputing that he is contributing to the Nets‘ explosive growth. With a 21-12 run, they are presently ranked fourth in the East. Their key players, Durant and Irving, have been on a roll and are almost certain to make the playoffs.
