“He’s played his last game there” Nick Friedell believes the Nets are done with controversial Kyrie Irving for his off-court antics
Nick Friedell and Kyrie Irving
NBA analyst Nick Friedell stated that Brooklyn Nets are done dealing with their star player Kyrie Irving. Kyrie recently supported a film having antisemitic content. Even after asking to apologize, he failed and has been suspended for at least five games.
Nick Friedell was talking on a show where he quoted, “There are so many people within the [Nets] organization who are so tired of the stuff off the floor… Day by day, Kyrie [Irving] has eroded the trust within the organization… There is a good chance he’s played his last game there.”
This is not the first time Kyrie has gotten involved in scandals. Earlier, when the Covid-19 pandemic hit the world, he refused to get vaccinated and was made to sit out for most of the games. Kyrie, as mentioned above, has been suspended for a minimum of 5 games without pay, but the Nets owner Joe Tsai tweeted that this suspension might even get extended. And, many fans also want him out of the league for his controversial off-court antics.
With Kyrie Irving suspended, the Brooklyn Nets might have hit rock-bottom
It is crisis time for the Brooklyn Nets; a team considered to dominate before the season began. No one would have thought in the NBA world that with less than 10 matches in their campaign, the Nets will have to deal with so much of trauma outside the court. It all started with Kyrie Irving tweeting a link to a film having antisemitic content. He then defended himself by stating that he doesn’t support any particular religion or race.
However, the sentiments of people had already been hurt. The fans were in stands wearing quoted t-shirts which kept the matter going on. To add to the misery, the Nets dropped a bombshell when they suspended coach Steve Nash when half of the world was asleep. Moreover, now they want to hire suspended Celtics head coach Ime Udoka. Even after giving plenty of chances, Kyrie failed to apologize and got suspended.
It is only after his suspension that he gave out an apology. All this fiasco has added to the woes of the Nets on court. The team is not able to perform and is reeling at 2-6 with a long season to go ahead. With no head coach and one of their star players being suspended, it will be interesting to see how Brooklyn Nets eye a comeback in the ongoing season.
